Fani Willis Lashes Out Over Records Request, Accuses House Republicans Of ‘Obstructing’ Trump Prosecution

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis penned a letter to House Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan (R-OH) in which she accused House Republicans of “obstructing” her wide-reaching case against former President Trump and a number of his advisers, staffers and lawyers.

Jordan previously sent a letter to Willis’ office in which he requested records and accused the Fulton County D.A. of election interference. “Your indictment and prosecution implicate substantial federal interests, and the circumstances surrounding your actions raise serious concerns about whether they are politically motivated,” Jordan wrote.

“The timing of this prosecution reinforces concerns about your motivation,” he continued, adding that the timing of Willis’ indictment amounts to “election interference.” The House Judiciary Committee chairman also requested any records relating to communications between the Fulton County D.A’s office and the Department of Justice, including special counsel Jack Smith’s office.

In a response letter, Willis refused to cooperate with records requests and accused Jordan of having “no understanding” of the law. “Chairman Jordan, I tell people often ‘deal with reality or reality will deal with you.’ It is time that you deal with some basic realities. A Special Purpose Grand Jury made up of everyday citizens investigated for 10 months and made recommendations to me,” Willis wrote.

“A further reality is that a grand jury of completely different Fulton County citizens found probable cause against the defendants named in the indictment for RICO violations and various other felonies. Face this reality, Chairman Jordan: the select group of defendants who you fret over in my jurisdiction are like every other defendant, entitled to no worse or better treatment than any other American citizen.”

Willis went on to claim that any communication or funding from the DOJ is completely above board.

“Your letter makes clear that you lack a basic understanding of the law, its practice, and the ethical obligations of attorneys generally and prosecutors specifically,” Willis continued.

The Fulton County D.A. has frequently been accused of partisan bias due to campaign promises to prosecute the former president, Facebook posts in which she questioned the integrity of the 2020 election, and the fact that she once held a fundraiser for the Democratic opponent of a target of her investigation.
