Far-Left Advocacy Group Known For Smearing Conservatives Announces Steep Staffing Cuts

The Southern Poverty Law Center, a far-left advocacy group known for smearing conservative individuals and organizations as “white supremacists,” announced they will be laying off 60 employees as the group seeks to cut costs.

The SPLC did not confirm the number, which has been reported by the Associated Press, though the organization did announce that it is undergoing an organizational restructuring” that resulted in staff cuts.

The layoffs following years of turmoil for the far-left group, whose members have been arrested for participating in violent, Antifa-linked riots in the past. SPLC co-founder Morris Dees was dismissed in 2019, while an outside group was brought in and tasked with reviewing workplace practices.

In a statement released in response to the cuts, The SPLC strongly criticized the decision to reduce staff. “Today, the Southern Poverty Law Center — an organization with nearly a billion dollars in reserves, given an F rating by CharityWatch for ‘hoarding’ donations — gutted its staff by a quarter,” the SPLC Union said in the statement.

“SPLC’s decision has a catastrophic impact on the organization’s work in support of immigrants seeking justice and its mission to dismantle white supremacy, strengthen intersectional movements and advance human rights through support of educators,” the union statement added.

The Southern Poverty Law Center stated that the reductions were “a difficult but necessary decision to focus and align our work with our programmatic priorities and goals.”

“Our mission at the SPLC is clear: to serve as a catalyst for racial justice in the South and beyond. In partnership with communities, we are working tirelessly to dismantle white supremacy and advance the human rights of all people — especially Black and Brown communities,” the organization added.

The group was founded in 1971 as a watchdog and advocacy group for minorities. It gained prominence for bringing a number of successful lawsuits against the KKK, though it has since morphed into a group that compares everyone right of Stalin to the klan.

Most recently, the SPLC branded Moms for Liberty and dozens of additional parental rights in education organizations as “hate groups,” putting them on par with the KKK and neo-Nazis.

In 2022, the organization reported having $711 million in assets and receiving more than $100 million in donations each year since 2019, the AP reported.
