Far-Left Lawmaker Suggests Trump Officials Will Be Arrested For ‘Kidnapping’
U.S. Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) suggested during an appearance on MSNBC’s “The Rachel Maddow Show” that Trump Administration officials could be arrested for “interfering with a legal proceeding,” which he referred to as “kidnapping.”
Raskin, like many elected Democrats, has elevated a number of deported illegal aliens to hero status in recent weeks. The party has rallied around suspected MS-13 gang member and alleged human trafficker Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Salvadoran national who was deported to his country of origin.
Democrats have accused the Trump Administration of “kidnapping” and “disappearing” Abrego Garcia and are demanding his return, despite the fact that an immigration judge previously ordered his removal due to his gang ties.
“I regard it very much within the prism of what we’ve been dealing with over the last month, which is an intense assault on judicial independence. They have been disobeying federal court orders systematically,” Raskin told Maddow.
The far-left congressman then made the bizarre claim that Judge James Boasberg, an Obama appointee who is pursuing contempt proceedings against Trump officials in a highly questionable move, is a “conservative Republican.”
“They have been demanding the impeachment of judges who rule against the lawlessness of the Trump administration. There are now more than 90 preliminary injunctions and temporary restraining orders against the chaos that’s been unleashed on the country by the Trump administration,” Raskin continued.
“Now they’re arresting judges, and the first felony criminal charge brought against Judge Hannah Dugan in Wisconsin is interfering with a legal proceeding, which is essentially what they’ve been doing all along. What Judge Boasberg is about to hold them in criminal contempt for and has found that there is probable cause for criminal contempt is that they deliberately ignored and defied his order not to take off in those airplanes headed for El Salvador and not turning the airplanes around.”
Legal scholars have poked holes in Boasberg’s pursuit of contempt proceedings, including veteran trial attorney Alan Dershowitz, who noted that the underlying ruling Boasberg is attempting to enforce was overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court. Despite this, Boasberg has attempted to claim that the Trump Administration ignored his oral order to turn around an aircraft filled with violent Venezuelan and Salvadoran gang members.
Raskin — who recently threatened foreign leaders who negotiate trade deals with the Trump Administration– concluded by threatening to double down on lawfare directed against the Trump Administration.
“So on the logic of this arrest of Judge Dugan, all of the people in the Trump Administration who participated in defying that order by Judge Boasberg themselves could be arrested for interfering with a legal proceeding and perhaps other criminal charges like kidnapping,” he said.
