Rock legend Lindsey Buckingham was targeted in a bizarre attack in Los Angeles this week, with police hunting a suspected stalker who allegedly tracked his movements.

Law enforcement sources say the 76-year-old guitarist was ambushed Wednesday as he arrived for an appointment in Santa Monica.

A woman allegedly threw an unknown substance at Buckingham as he entered the building, then took off, according to a report by NBC 4 Los Angeles.

Authorities believe the suspect had been stalking Buckingham and that he was already aware of her from prior encounters. Investigators say she appeared to know the exact time and location of his appointment and showed up waiting.

Buckingham was not injured in the incident, sources said.

Both the Los Angeles Police Department and the Santa Monica Police Department are investigating, and an arrest is expected.

Buckingham, a Bay Area native born in 1949, rose to global fame after joining Fleetwood Mac in 1975. He brought then-girlfriend Stevie Nicks into the band, helping launch one of rock’s most successful eras.

Their volatile relationship both fueled and fractured the group during its peak, including the era that produced the blockbuster album “Rumors.”

The pair split in 1976, and tensions inside the band eventually pushed Buckingham out in 1987. He returned a decade later and toured worldwide with the group until another falling-out with Nicks led to his firing in 2018.
