Former President’s Son Passes Away

Published

on

Michael Reagan, the outspoken eldest son of former President Ronald Reagan and a lifelong conservative advocate, died at age 80.

The death was announced by former Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, now president of Young America’s Foundation, who said Reagan had been a close friend and ally for decades through shared work in conservative activism and faith-based causes.

Walker said Reagan was a familiar and influential figure at Young America’s Foundation events, especially programs held at the Reagan Ranch in California, where he regularly addressed students about the principles that shaped his father’s presidency.

“Michael Reagan was such a wonderful inspiration to so many of us. That was particularly true of the students who heard him at Young America’s Foundation’s programs at the Reagan Ranch,” Walker wrote. “He did so much more than share stories about his father. He challenged the next generation to share the values he stood for throughout his public life. He called on them to be happy warriors in the battle to uphold the founding principles of our republic.”

Reagan spent nearly 20 years as a nationally syndicated conservative radio host, building a reputation as a sharp-tongued advocate for limited government, a strong national defense, and traditional values. After leaving broadcasting, he traveled extensively, speaking about the policies and philosophy that defined his father’s time in office.

He later served as chairman and president of the Reagan Legacy Foundation, an organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the Reagan administration’s priorities.

Beyond radio, Reagan maintained a long media career as a television commentator and remained active in conservative advocacy and charitable work. His efforts included ongoing involvement with Young America’s Foundation and adoption-focused nonprofits, a cause he frequently spoke about publicly.

Reagan also raised more than $1.5 million for charity through powerboat racing and authored several books exploring conservatism, adoption, and the personal impact of growing up as Ronald Reagan’s son.

His death marked the passing of one of the most visible and outspoken torchbearers of the Reagan political legacy.
