Former VP Mike Pence Defends Trump, Calls Indictment “Political Prosecution”
On Thursday, the Manhattan Grand Jury under DA Alvin Bragg voted to indict former President Donald Trump. Many have bashed the Left for their witch hunt persecution. One of these critics has been former Vice President Mike Pence.
On Friday, Pence remarked, “The unprecedented indictment of a former president of the U.S. for a campaign finance issue is an outrage.”
“I think it’s clear to the overwhelming majority of the American people this is nothing short of a political prosecution,” Trump’s former VP said.
The relationship between Mike Pence and Donald Trump has been a complicated one. Pence, a former Indiana governor and staunch conservative, was selected by Trump as his running mate in the 2016 presidential election and served as Vice President for the entirety of Trump’s four-year term in office.
Their relationship became somewhat strained in the aftermath of the 2020 election, with Trump pressuring Pence to overturn the results of the election and Pence ultimately declining to do so. Despite this, Pence has continued to publicly support Trump and his policies, and his recent criticism of the indictment against Trump is evidence of that.
