Fox News Host Publicly Names Senators Working To Tank Hegseth Nomination: ‘Friendly Reminder’

Prominent Fox News hosts Mark Levin and Tammy Bruce openly criticized Senators Joni Ernst (R-IA) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) for their alleged efforts to block Pete Hegseth’s nomination as Secretary of Defense. The rebukes signal intensifying battles over President-elect Donald Trump’s key cabinet appointments as his administration prepares for his second term.

Levin, host of Life, Liberty & Levin, accused Ernst of leading a behind-the-scenes effort to rally Republican opposition against Hegseth, a Fox News contributor and former Army officer known for his hardline conservative views. “Joni Ernst is the ringleader seeking to derail Pete Hegseth’s nomination,” Levin posted. “She has worked to organize Republican opposition in the Senate and deny Hegseth a rollcall vote on his nomination.”

Levin also implicated Graham, alleging he has been “lobbying hard” against Hegseth’s confirmation. Levin’s comments reflect mounting frustration among Trump allies who view Hegseth’s nomination as pivotal to reshaping U.S. defense policy.

When asked on Thursday if she supports Hegseth’s confirmation, Ernst said, “Well, I did have a very long, lengthy discussion with Pete yesterday, and I do appreciate his service to the nation. I also am a combat veteran, so we talked about a number of those issues, and we will continue with the vetting process.”

“I think that that is incredibly important. So again, all I’m saying is we had a very frank and productive discussion and I know that we will continue to have conversation in the upcoming months.”

After remaining mum on giving a clear answer on his confirmation, Ernst elaborated, “I think for a number of our senators, they want to make sure that any allegations have been cleared, and that’s why we have to have a very thorough vetting process.”

Fox News host Tammy Bruce joined the fray, tweeting directly at Ernst and Graham: “It appears that both of you have become overconfident in relying on how the status quo has worked up to this point. But as a friendly reminder, things have changed, and continuing to try to kneecap Hegseth will not work out well for either one of you.”

The nomination of Hegseth has drawn criticism not only from Democrats but also from moderate and establishment Republicans, who question his qualifications and worry about his polarizing style. Behind closed doors, Republican senators are said to be weighing the potential fallout of opposing Hegseth, whose nomination has been championed by Trump loyalists as a signal of the president’s commitment to military reform.

Trump has frequently criticized Republican lawmakers for perceived disloyalty. For Hegseth, the outcome of his nomination may hinge on whether Trump’s allies can rally enough Republican senators to overcome the opposition. On Friday morning, Trump took to Truth Social to reinforce his backing of Hegseth.

“Pete Hegseth is doing very well. His support is strong and deep, much more so than the Fake News would have you believe,” Trump wrote.

“He was a great student – Princeton/Harvard educated – with a Military state of mind. He will be a fantastic, high energy, Secretary of Defense Defense, one who leads with charisma and skill. Pete is a WINNER, and there is nothing that can be done to change that!!!” the president-elect finished.
