Georgia Secretary Of State Forms Election Integrity Task Force

Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger announced that his office is forming a bipartisan Election Integrity Task Force.

The group brings together former elected officials, election administrators, legal experts, and others to serve as an ongoing forum focused on ensuring elections in the state remain fair and secure, the secretary of state’s office explained. It aims to identify emerging challenges and explore practical solutions that strengthen transparency and public confidence.

“Georgia has the most secure elections in America and we intend to keep it that way. This bipartisan group brings together leaders with different backgrounds and perspectives who share a commitment to protecting every lawful vote and strengthening public confidence in our elections,” Raffensperger said.

“Election security begins well before Election Day. There are months of preparation, testing, training, coordination, and security work that voters may never see. This Task Force will help ensure that work is coordinated and that Georgians understand the safeguards in place to protect their vote.”

The task force is charged with examining several specific areas. These include voter list maintenance, election administration best practices, transparency initiatives, election misinformation, and county compliance and performance. Drawing on members’ experience in public service, election administration, law enforcement, election law, and civic leadership, the group is intended to evaluate concerns, identify solutions, and improve how elections are administered and understood by the public.

Members of the Election Integrity Task Force include Former U.S. Representative Drew Ferguson of the Democracy Defense Foundation; Former Governor Roy Barnes of the Democracy Defense Foundation; Former Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin of the Democracy Defense Foundation; Former U.S. Senator Saxby Chambliss of the Democracy Defense Foundation; election law expert Ben Ginsberg; Former State Senator Don Balfour, Senior Advisor to the Georgia Democracy Resilience Network; Joseph Kirk, Bartow County Elections Supervisor and Immediate Past President of the Georgia Association of Voter Registration and Election Officials; Nancy Boren, Muscogee County Elections and Registration Director; Terry Norris, Executive Director of the Georgia Sheriffs’ Association; and Eric Johnson, former President Pro Tempore of the Georgia Senate and Chairman of RightCount Georgia.

“This group here, they’re well-respected members of the community. They’re on both sides of the aisle, but they are also recognized as being fair brokers of the truth. They’re not just saying things because they got orders from their party bosses,” the secretary said in a follow-up statement.

Raffensperger indicated that the task force will assist with regional election worker trainings, appear at roundtable policy discussions, and help coordinate with local election officials. The regional roundtables are planned to begin sometime after Labor Day.
