GOP Congressman Calls For Ilhan Omar’s Deportation: ‘America Would Be A Better Place’
A Republican congressman is calling for Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) to be deported after video surfaced of her hosting workshops in Minneapolis aimed at helping illegal immigrants from Somalia evade deportation under President Donald Trump’s policies.
Rep. Brandon Gill (R-TX) did not hold back in his response to Omar’s actions, posting on X: “America would be a better place if @IlhanMN were deported back to Somalia.” He later doubled down, writing, “We should have never let Ilhan Omar into our country.”
The workshops, which took place in Omar’s home district, were designed to inform illegal Somali migrants on how to avoid enforcement from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Omar, the first Somali-American to serve in Congress, described what migrants should do if they are questioned by ICE agents, advising those whose documentation had “lapsed” or who are “undocumented” to take precautionary steps.
“You are not obligated to answer their questions. Just state that your are advised by a lawyer not to answer questions,” Omar said in the video. “Disclosure of your name, immigration status, and the mode of entry is not mandatory. Learn the laws and prepare yourself and refrain from disclosing information that you prefer them not to know.”

“Representative Omar’s conduct raises questions about to whom she is most loyal- the American people or illegal aliens from Somalia,” a spokesperson from Gill’s team told The Hill. “Representative Gill simply stated that it is disgraceful for a sitting Congresswoman and US citizen to facilitate the invasion of our country by illegal alien Somalis.”
Rep. Gill is a rookie Republican congressman representing Texas’ 26th Congressional District. Born on a military air force base in New Mexico, he was raised on a cattle ranch in West Texas. While at Dartmouth, he was president of The Dartmouth Review, a conservative student paper, and led a Christian student group on a campus he described as hostile to faith.
Following college, Gill worked as an investment banker on Wall Street and later as an analyst at a global hedge fund. However, he left finance to launch the DC Enquirer, a conservative America First news outlet that quickly gained popularity. A strong critic of the Biden administration and leftist policies, Gill ran for Congress.
DOGE leader Elon Musk also wrote in response to the video early Tuesday, “She is breaking the law. Literally. Outright.”
Meanwhile, Omar has long been a controversial figure in American politics, facing scrutiny over her stance on immigration, her past comments about law enforcement, and her anti-Israel rhetoric. Many immediately condemned Omar’s involvement, calling it an outright attempt to subvert U.S. immigration law.
Social media users erupted in response to the video. “How is this even legal for a sitting member of Congress to advise people on how to break our laws?” asked one user.
Another wrote, “She’s not loyal to America. She’s trying to keep illegals here who are not loyal to America. Please deport her.”
Others questioned the legality of Omar’s actions. “Does it violate immigration or any laws for a sitting Congresswoman to give advice to illegal immigrants on how to avoid deportation?”
