GOP Congressman Claims Bad Bunny’s Halftime Performance Was ‘Illegal’
Rep. Randy Fine is demanding federal punishment for the NFL and NBC after what he called an explicit and unlawful Super Bowl halftime show.
The Florida Republican blasted Sunday night’s performance by Bad Bunny, arguing that Spanish-language lyrics were used to skirt federal broadcast standards that would never be tolerated in English.
“You can’t say the f-word on live TV,” Fine wrote Monday on X.
Fine said the halftime show crossed clear legal lines and accused the league and network of exploiting a double standard.
“‘Bad Bunny’’s disgusting halftime show was illegal,” he wrote.
The congressman argued that if the same lyrics had been aired in English, the consequences would have been swift and severe.
“If the lyrics were in English, the broadcast would have been pulled down and the fines would have been enormous,” Fine wrote.
He rejected claims that language or cultural differences should change enforcement of broadcast rules.
“Puerto Ricans are Americans and we all live by the same rules,” Fine added.

Fine said he and others are sending a letter to FCC Chairman Brendan Carr demanding “dramatic action,” including fines and potential reviews of broadcast licenses.
The request targets the NFL, NBC and Bad Bunny himself.
“Lock them up,” Fine wrote.
Fine also circulated lyrics from Bad Bunny songs containing explicit sexual references and profanity, which he labeled “disgusting and pornographic filth.”
Bad Bunny’s halftime set was performed almost entirely in Spanish and featured sexually explicit choreography, sparking backlash from viewers who said the show crossed the line for a family broadcast.
