GOP Rep. Floats House Select Committee For ‘Left-Wing Violence’
A Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives on Friday suggested he will convene a select committee to explore the prevalence of left-wing violence in the wake of Charlie Kirk’s death.
Although no motive for Kirk’s murder has been confirmed, a debate over the incendiary rhetoric of left-wing politicians has permeated the cultural milieu as commentators seek to pin the blame on Democratic politicians who have long referred to President Donald Trump and his supporters as Nazis and fascists.
Rep. Mike Collins (R-GA) wrote on social media that it’s time for House Republicans to launch an investigation into the dangerous words of their Democratic colleagues.
“We need a House Select Committee on left wing violence,” he announced on X.
A number of progressive lawmakers have scoffed when asked whether left-wing agitation contributed to the death of Kirk, 31, a conservative activist who was frequently at the center of viral videos showing him debating angry liberal college students. He was shot and killed by a round from a hunting rifle while speaking on the campus of Utah Valley University near Salt Lake City.
On Thursday, Outkick founder Travis Clay pinned the initial blame on former President Barack Obama, who began referring to Trump as a “fascist” as early as the 2016 election.
“You can’t call the president of the United States Adolf Hitler for 10 years, and you can’t say that he’s a fascist dictator,” Travis angrily responded to news that Obama claimed Americans “don’t know” what caused Kirk’s killer to act.

Other Democratic politicians, like U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), recoiled in disgust when asked on Wednesday whether her party’s rhetoric played a role in Kirk’s murder.
“Oh, please,” she exclaimed outside the Capitol. “Why don’t you start with the President of the United States?”
“Squad” Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) dodged a question on her culpability on Thursday, instead framing Kirk’s death as a watershed moment for lawmakers to pass new gun control legislation.
“Are we going to do something, or are we going to argue over rhetoric? That is my question about this,” she said, The Hill reported. “We have to pass gun safety legislation and stop this.”
The angriest reaction among all left-wing politicians, however, may have come from Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN). Appearing on a progressive podcast, she claimed Republicans are “full of s**t” for their denunciations of Democrats’ heated rhetoric.
“There are a lot of people who are talking about him [Kirk] just wanting to have a civil debate,” Omar sneered to progressive outlet Zeteo, the NY Post reported. “These people are full of s**t and it’s important for us to call them out while we feel anger and sadness.”
