GOP Senator Takes Shot At Vance, Cites Children’s Book In Bizarre Social Media Post
Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) is on the receiving end of intense criticism from all corners of the Republican Party over a bizarre social media post in which he criticized Vice President JD Vance and told him he should read a popular children’s book.
The senator was speaking in reference to the Trump Administration’s decision to launch a successful military strike on a drug-trafficking boat which, according to Pentagon officials, had links to the Venezuelan government. The first-of-it’s-kind strike marked a dramatic shift in Trump’s policy towards America’s backyard.
A number of Democrats have criticized the move, however, which led to a viral exchange between Vice President Vance and a notorious social media troll on Saturday morning. “Killing cartel members who poison our fellow citizens is the highest and best use of our military,” Vance posted on X, to which left-wing political commentator Brian Krassenstein replied, “Killing the citizens of another nation who are civilians without any due process is called a war crime.”
The vice president did not mince words with his reply, saying, “I don’t give a sh*t what you call it.”
Senator Paul appeared to find the exchange deeply offensive, as he soon criticized the vice president in a social media post of his own. “JD ‘I don’t give a shit’ Vance says killing people he accuses of a crime is the ‘highest and best use of the military.’ Did he ever read To Kill a Mockingbird?” the senator wrote.
“Did he ever wonder what might happen if the accused were immediately executed without trial or representation?? What a despicable and thoughtless sentiment it is to glorify killing someone without a trial.”

Paul’s staunch defense of foreign drug dealers and citation of a children’s book in making his argument has been widely mocked on social media, including by the Trump Administration. In one example, the official Trump War Room account posted a Spongebob meme depicting Paul crying over “dead drug dealers.”
“You’re demanding a full trial for every two-bit drug-peddling scumbag foreigner that poisons and kills Americans. You literally want America to fail. Because if America wins, then you don’t have a platform anymore,” wrote one social media user. “This post lost at the ballot box,” said another.
The senator has also faced sharp criticism from his own Senate colleagues. “What’s really despicable is defending foreign terrorist drug traffickers who are *directly* responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Americans in Kentucky and Ohio. JD understands that our first responsibility is to protect the life and liberty of American citizens,” said Senator Bernie Moreno (R-OH).
