Hall Of Fame Rocker Cancels Tour After Concerning Diagnosis
Legendary rock artist Dave Mason has been forced to cancel his highly anticipated “Traffic Jam 2024” west coast tour following a serious medical diagnosis. During a routine check-up, Mason’s doctors identified a heart condition that requires urgent attention, putting the fall tour on indefinite hold.
Mason, 77, best known for his work with the band Traffic and his successful solo career, expressed his deep disappointment in a statement on Instagram, but stressed the importance of following his medical team’s advice. “I’m heartbroken to have to cancel these dates, but it’s Doctor’s orders,” Mason said. “I’ll be back, and better than ever, in 2025.”

Fans were excited to see Mason, a 2004 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, back on stage performing his timeless hits. His team of doctors remain optimistic about a full recovery, and plans for a tour resumption in 2025 are already in the works. Earlier in September, signs that Dave Mason was facing health issues emerged when his team announced the cancellation of the tour’s first two shows in Phoenix and Las Vegas.
“Under the advice of doctors, Dave Mason’s fall tour has been changed to start in Santa Barbara and continue, on schedule, to Lake Tahoe,” the statement read last week. “We are very sorry to miss the first couple shows in Phoenix and Las Vegas. The venues will contact ticket buyers about refunds or reschedules. We are working closely with Dave’s team of doctors and look forward to seeing you soon in California, Nevada and beyond in 2025.”

Mason is a British musician, singer-songwriter, and guitarist best known for his time with the rock band Traffic in the late 1960s. He was one of the founding members of Traffic alongside Steve Winwood, Jim Capaldi, and Chris Wood. Mason wrote some of Traffic’s early hits, including “Feelin’ Alright?” which later became a global hit for Joe Cocker and has been covered by many other artists.
After his stint with Traffic, Dave Mason had a successful solo career, releasing several albums throughout the 1970s and 1980s. His solo work includes popular songs like “Only You Know and I Know” and “We Just Disagree.” Over the years, Mason has also worked as a session musician and collaborated with many notable artists, including Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Jimi Hendrix. His distinct guitar playing and songwriting have earned him a respected place in rock history.
Mason’s history as one of the driving forces behind the British rock scene in the late ’60s, particularly his contributions to Traffic’s sound, made the upcoming tour a significant event for fans of classic rock. For now, they’ll have to wait until next year to see him return to the stage.
