Harris Campaign Fires Back At Philly Democrat Chair As Tempers Flare: ‘A Worthless Endeavor’
Donald Trump secured a victory in the 2024 presidential race, clinching crucial votes in Wisconsin and surpassing the 270 Electoral College threshold. Following her defeat, sharp criticism emerged from Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign, targeting Philadelphia Democratic Party Chairman Bob Brady for attributing the city’s disappointing voter turnout to their efforts.
In a statement, Brendan McPhillips, a senior adviser to the Harris campaign in Pennsylvania, highlighted their pre-election efforts, saying the team “knocked more than two million doors in the weekend leading up to Election Day, which is two million more doors than Bob Brady’s organization can claim to have knocked during his entire tenure as party chairman.”
“If there’s any immediate takeaway from Philadelphia’s turnout this cycle, it is that Chairman Brady’s decades-long practice of fleecing campaigns for money to make up for his own lack of fundraising ability or leadership is a worthless endeavor that no future campaign should ever be forced to entertain again,” McPhillips continued.
The rebuke of Bob Brady, the long-serving leader of the Democratic City Committee, followed his comments to The Inquirer. The former Congressman denied any culpability for the GOP’s significant gains in Pennsylvania, pointing to funding shortfalls as a major issue. Brady criticized the Harris campaign for providing only “half” of the funds his committee had requested for their get-out-the-vote initiative. These funds, commonly referred to as “street money,” are typically used to compensate committee members for their efforts in mobilizing voters.

Brady also expressed feelings of being disregarded by the Harris campaign, stating, “I never talked to the lady, and she’s the candidate.” He complained that the campaign “didn’t show us any respect.”
In response, a Harris campaign adviser showed The Inquirer a photo of Brady with Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, indicating some level of interaction. Meanwhile, Brendan McPhillips praised the Harris team’s dedication, claiming, “Our staff and volunteers should be applauded for their efforts in the face of an unprecedented campaign, and will no doubt be the ones who are going to dust themselves off and get back to work.”
Trump captured Pennsylvania and its 19 Electoral College votes in this election. His victory marked a significant shift from 2020 when Biden had won the state with 50% of the vote compared to Trump’s 49%. Previously, in 2016, Trump secured a win in Pennsylvania, taking 49% of the vote to Hillary Clinton’s 48%. In Philadelphia, with 87.6% of votes counted, Harris has received 551,605 votes, 78.7% of the tally. Trump garnered 141,189 votes for 20.1% of the total according to NBC News. These figures represent a five-point swing in favor of Trump compared to 2020.
Latino voters swung sharply to the right in an election driven by widespread frustration over rising food and housing costs, playing a key role in securing Trump’s reelection to the White House.
