‘He’s A Soaring Eagle’: CNN Data Expert Praises Trump’s ‘Historic’ Second Term
CNN’s loquacious data expert broke out a high-flying analogy to describe President Donald Trump’s historic first term amid an unprecedented shakeup in global trade and tariffs.
In the background of the Republican’s second term is a permeating fear that Washington, D.C. might not bend so easily to his will if lawmakers believe he is a lame duck with a four-year horizon. But that anticipated challenge isn’t panning out, Harry Enten explained on Tuesday.
“He ain’t no lame duck. If anything, he’s a soaring eagle,” the analyst declared before jumping into the record-breaking 111 executive orders signed by President Trump in his first 100 days.
“That is the most at this point in a presidency in at least a hundred years! In fact it’s the most in any single year and we’re only at in April, since Harry S. Truman in the early 1950s,” he continued.
“The bottom line is: Whether you like Trump or you don’t like him, you can’t say that he’s come in and not tried to deliver on at least what he believed were his promises on the campaign trail and he’s doing so in historic fashion.”
To be sure, the speed and breadth of Trump’s executive orders are anything but precedented. A recent CNN survey showed 86% of respondents agreed that they have never seen anything like his second-term approach to presidential power.
“I think what the American people recognize here is he’s doing something completely different,” Enten continued, adding that the large majorities stretch across partisan lines.
“Again, you can agree or you can disagree with Donald Trump. But what you can’t disagree with is he’s doing things very differently. I have used the Frank Sinatra quote before: He is doing it ‘my way’ and that is what Donald Trump has done throughout both of his presidential terms.”
WATCH:
Enten’s overtures to Trump may be seen as currying favor with the new administration after suffering the wrath of his first one. Back then, White House correspondent Jim Acosta made more headlines about his calumny in press briefings than actual stories filed.
CNN executives, realizing their predicament, earlier this year sidelined Acosta to the midnight hour, and he eventually chose to resign rather than continue his career in the “Siberia” of cable news programming.
Those remaining on-air, such as Jake Tapper and Anderson Cooper, have been warned by president Chris Thompson against “pre-judging” Trump or opining too broadly about his early actions in office, a sign that the executive is aware of how dark things could get for a network that’s already hemorrhaging cash and staff.
