Ilhan Omar And Cori Bush Humiliated After Misunderstanding Memorial Day
A pair of ill-advised social media posts by Congresswomen Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and Cori Bush (D-MO) were deleted on Memorial Day after the liberal Squad members appeared to be ignorant about the purpose of the federal holiday.
The New York Post grabbed the X posts before they were deleted, showing Omar and Tlaib expressing a deep misunderstanding about a day meant to honor the dead, not support living service members and their families in the case of Veterans Day.

“On Memorial Day, we honor the heroic men and women who served our country,” Omar wrote on Monday. “We owe them more than our gratitude – they have more than earned access to quality mental health services, job opportunities, housing assistance, and the benefits they were promised.”
With tragically comedic similarity, Rep. Bush posted about providing healthcare, housing, and career paths for dead soldiers.
“This Memorial Day and every day, we honor our veterans in St. Louis. We must invest in universal healthcare, affordable housing, comprehensive mental health services, and educational and economic opportunities for our veterans as we work to build a world free of war and violence.”
Social media users pointed out that Veterans Day, observed on November 11th, was more appropriate for their messages, after which both quickly deleted the posts.
“Ilhan Omar misunderstanding Memorial Day is incredibly on brand,” posted John Hasson of Townhall.
“Ilhan Omar thinks Memorial Day is about celebrating people who are alive. Beyond parody,” OutKick’s David Hookstead wrote, adding “Screenshots live forever” after the post was deleted.
Another user wrote, “Cori Bush just[] deleted this. Memorial Day is for honoring those who have died while serving in the U.S. military. Veterans Day, which is in November, is for honoring everyone who has served in the U.S. Military and is largely intended to thank living veterans.”
A few hours later, Bush’s post was taken down and replaced with one recognizing the actual meaning of Memorial Day.
“This #MemorialDay, we honor those who served and lost their lives for our country, and we hold in our hearts the loved ones they’ve left behind. We must continue to push to protect our service members while working to build a world free of war and violence.”
Omar’s office, meanwhile, did not post a fix, though the Minnesota Democrat posted an amended message on her personal account, the Post added.
“On Memorial Day, let’s say thank you to the brave men and women who selflessly sacrificed their lives in service to our country. Thank you to the families who also have sacrificed and have dedicated their time to ensuring their loved ones are remembered,” she wrote.
The memorial mix-up came the same day that GOP Congressman Mike Lawler (R-NY) slammed another Squad member, Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), for speaking at a Detroit conference organized by a pro-Palestinian group that has been designated by a U.S. as a sponsor of international terrorism. Lawler wrote on X that the appearance is worthy of expulsion from Congress.
Tlaib “should be removed from Congress immediately. Associating with and speaking before groups that are funded by US designated terrorist organizations is disqualifying,” Rep. Lawler wrote, including video of the Democrat at the “People’s Conference for Palestine” where Tlaib told attendees they are on the “right side” of Hamas’ war with Israel.
