Indiana ‘councilma’am’ Ryan Webb flipped the script on the Delaware County council by saying that they now identify as a “lesbian woman of color. ” Webb gave their gender reveal in a Facebook post made on April 12.
The Democratic Party and the LBTQIA+ community failed to find the humor in Webb’s exploring the new gender identity.

“Councilperson Ryan Webb announced publicly on social media that he now identifies as a lesbian woman of color,” one citizen complained. “If he was serious, I’d sing his praises. But instead, I know better.”
Webb, formerly identifying as a white man, has adopted the identity of an Indian-American woman and has joined the LGBTQ+ community due to being attracted to women.
“After much consideration I have decided to come out and finally feel comfortable announcing my true authentic self,” Webb wrote. “It is with great relief that I announce to everyone that I identify as a woman and not just any woman but as a woman of color as well. I guess this would make me gay/lesbian as well, since I am attracted to women,” Webb added.
“Whew, that felt good to finally get that out there and start living life as my true self. I’m excited to bring some diversity to the county council. Until today we didn’t have any females of color or LGBTQIAPC+++ on the council. I’m glad that now we do!” Webb added.
The councilman clarified that his preferred pronouns are he/him and people can address him as Ryan or as Councilman Webb.
“To avoid confusion, everyone can continue to address me as Ryan or as Councilman Webb. I will also retain my my preferred pronouns of He/Him, however, this will in no way diminish my true identity as a woman of color,” Webb stated. “I’m excited to be a vocal partner of the LGBTQIAPC+++ movement. Who knows just how far we can take things, but I’m just glad that this is now possible so ANYONE can be ANYTHING or ANYONE they want.”
In his post’s conclusion, Webb added the message “God Bless America” and accompanied it with emojis representing the American flag, the LGBTQ+ flag, a winking face, a shrugging woman, and a flexed arm muscle. Later, in an updated version of his post, Webb proudly announced making history as the first-ever lesbian woman of color to serve on the Delaware County council.
“It has come to my attention that I am more than likely the very first lesbian woman of color in the history of Delaware County to ever serve on the Delaware county council. I am honored to be the one to shatter that glass ceiling. #GirlPower.” Webb concluded.
