WATCH: James Carville Identifies The Moment Kamala Harris Lost The Election

Veteran political strategist and commentator James Carville revealed the campaign moment that, in his opinion, cost Vice President Kamala Harris the election during an interview with anti-Trump Republican outlet The Bulwark.

Carville — who is primarily known for his leading role in Bill Clinton’s highly successful presidential campaign in 1992 — stated that Harris was unable to articulate how her presidency would be any different from President Biden’s tenure.

An early October appearance on The View went viral for all the wrong reasons when Harris was asked the question directly. “If anything, would you have done something differently than President Biden during the past four years?” asked program co-host Sunny Hostin. “There is not a thing that comes to mind in terms of, and I’ve been a part of most of the decisions that have had impact,” Harris answered after an awkward pause.

This, coupled with months of polling data that found a large number of Americans expressing a negative view of the nation’s economy and overall track, is what cost Harris the election, Carville declared while speaking with The Bulwark contributor Tim Miller.

“We didn’t even get a chance to kick the tires. We just said, ‘you’re buying the car. You have no choice.’ And of course, we bought the car,” the veteran political strategist said of Harris’ snap nomination after Biden’s decision to suspend his campaign.

“And I think if this campaign is reducible to one moment, we’re in a 65 percent wrong track country. The country wants something different. And she’s asked, is so often the case in a friendly audience on The View, how would you be different than Biden? It’s the one question that you exist to answer. All right,” he continued, reference to the already infamous interview.

“That is it. That’s the money question. That’s the one you want. That’s the one that everybody wants to know to answer to. And you freeze. You literally freeze and say, ‘well, I can’t think of anything.’ And once you get in it, 65 percent want something different, we are just not going to give in to them, but maybe the odiousness of Trump combined with the Dobbs decision, we can overcome it. Well, we didn’t overcome it,” he continued, adding that the vice president’s response was “the most devastating answer you could imagine.”

Carville had expressed his dissatisfaction with current Democratic Party strategy and cultural appeal at numerous points throughout the 2024 election cycle.

Back in March, the “Ragin Cajun” generated headlines when he stated that the Democratic Party has been taken over by “too many preachy females.”

“A suspicion of mine is that there are too many preachy females … It’s too much ‘don’t drink beer, don’t watch football, don’t eat hamburgers, this is not good for you,’” he said, adding that the messaging is unappealing to working class Americans, particularly to male voters.

“The message is too feminine: ‘Everything you’re doing is destroying the planet. You’ve got to eat your peas.’”

Carville further argued that the messaging goes beyond gender and is linked to an elitist mentality among urban and suburban liberals who want to impose their viewpoints and lifestyle choices on the working class.
