ABC News reported that newly minted Republican vice-presidential nominee JD Vance — a freshman senator from Ohio — received a call from Vice President Harris after he was formally named as the nominee in a Truth Social post from former President Donald Trump.

ABC News reporter Rachel Scott was the first to report that Vice President Harris had reached out to Vance. “ I just talked to a source who confirms that Vice President Kamala Harris did in fact call Ohio Senator J.D. Vance after Trump revealed that it would be his running mate,” Scott reported.

I’m told that they did not connect, but I’m told that Harris did leave a voicemail. This crowd has been eagerly awaiting JD Vance and they’re already adapting to the news.”

The ABC News team went on to take note of significant enthusiasm over the Ohio senator’s pick at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.

“So many people writing in the name JD Vance on these Trump ‘Make America Great Again’ signs. They were chanting ‘JD Vance, JD Vance, JD Vance.’ You’re starting to hear some of the cheers as he makes his way down the aisle,” Scott reported.

While Vance had long been rumored to be on former President Trump’s shortlist, he told reporters that he had not yet “received the call” as recently as last week. This proved to be an accurate report from the freshman senator, as Trump reportedly called to inform him that he had been selected just 20 minutes before the announcement was made on Truth Social.

“After lengthy deliberation and thought, and considering the tremendous talents of many others, I have decided that the person best suited to assume the position of Vice President of the United States is Senator J.D. Vance of the Great State of Ohio,” Trump wrote.

Trump spoke highly of Vance’s successful work in technology and finance, as well as his highly regarded memoir “Hillbilly Elegy,” which details his struggles growing up in a declining American Midwest. It has long been believed that a potential Trump victory in 2024 will have to go through the Rust Belt, much like 2016.

“J.D. has had a very successful business career in Technology and Finance, and now, during the Campaign, will be strongly focused on the people he fought so brilliantly for, the American Workers and Farmers in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Minnesota, and far beyond,” Trump continued.

“As Vice President, J.D. will continue to fight for our Constitution, stand with our Troops, and will do everything he can to help me MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN. Congratulations to Senator J.D. Vance, his wife, Usha, who also graduated from Yale Law School, and their three beautiful children. MAGA2024!”
