Golden Globes host Jim Gaffigan subtly reminded his audience Sunday night that the world is still carefully watching who among the Hollywood elites are associated with notorious pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
The comedian, an outside pick to host the 81st annual affair, kicked off his opening monologue with an incredulous reflection on his being apart of the entertainment industry before leaning into some very dark humor.
“The Golden Globe. I mean, I can’t even believe I’m in the entertainment industry. It’s so unlikely. I’m from a small town in Indiana. I’m not a pedophile. I don’t know if that’s a new category here, but…”
The quip drew a delayed but hearty, if ironic, laugh from the glitterati.
Several A-list actors were named in the latest batch of Epstein papers including Leonardo DiCaprio, who was nominated for best actor in a drama motion picture for “Killers of the Flower Moon.” The iconic star was referenced by Epstein while the pedophile philanthropist name-dropped his Hollywood connections to a victim while she gave him a massage.
“I saw one press report that said you had met Cate Blanchett or Leonardo DiCaprio?” asked an interviewer.
“I did not meet them, no,” survivor Johanna Sjoberg clarified. “When I spoke about them, it was when I was massaging him, and he would get off — he would be on the phone a lot at that time, and one time he said, ‘Oh, that was Leonardo,’ or, ‘that was Cate Blanchett or Bruce Willis.’ That kind of thing.”
The brightest fireworks following the third batch of Epstein papers were made between famed quarterback Aaron Rodgers and late-night TV host Jimmy Kimmel, who threatened Rodgers with a lawsuit for suggesting his name would be disclosed. Despite his denials and name-calling of Rodgers as a “whack-Packer” as well as a “tin foil hatter,” a close friend of Kimmel’s was named among Epstein associates.
Other high-profile celebrities named include President Bill Clinton, Bruce Willis, Stephen Hawking, Kevin Spacey, Cameron Diaz, and Prince Andrew. The denials of friendship with Epstein followed almost immediately.
“Cameron never met Jeffrey Epstein, nor was she ever in the same place as him or had any association with him whatsoever,” a rep for the actress told the Daily Mail.
