In Tuesday’s episode of his late-night show, Jimmy Kimmel turned heads not just for his comedic timing, but for his sharp critique of former President Donald Trump, who is currently embroiled in a series of legal challenges. Kimmel’s monologue, which lampooned Trump’s courtroom antics and violations of a gag order later prompted accusations of media bias.

The episode, which aired amidst the ongoing legal trial against Trump, featured Kimmel joking about the former president’s so-called defiance of court-imposed restrictions on his speech. “It’s another stormy day in New York,” Kimmel joked.

Trump, who has been no stranger to legal controversy, was reportedly fined $1,000 for each instance of violating the gag order. Kimmel’s commentary didn’t stop at financial penalties. He likened Trump to various historical figures, sarcastically suggesting a parallel between Trump and Nelson Mandela, to the amusement of some and the disdain of others.

As a response, Trump wrote on Wednesday, “Stupid Jimmy Kimmel, who still hasn’t recovered from his horrendous performance and big ratings drop as Host of The Academy Awards, especially when he showed he suffered from TDS, commonly known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, to the entire World by reading on air my TRUTH about how bad a job he was doing that night, right before he stumbled through announcing the biggest award of all, ‘Picture of the Year.'”

“It was a CLASSIC CHOKE, one of the biggest ever in show business, and to top it off, he forgot to say the famous and mandatory line, “AND THE WINNER IS.” Instead he stammered around as he opened the envelope. Supposedly his wife, and even management, begged him not to do it, “DON’T READ HIS TRUTH, JIMMY, PLEASE DON’T DO THIS,” they said. He was made to look like a FOOL, which he is, and at the same time go down in Television History as the WORST HOST EVER OF THE ONCE VAUNTED ACADEMY AWARDS!”

The former president would later go on to predict that his poll numbers will rise even higher as a result of the trial, which has been largely panned by legal scholars.
