Judge Judy Breaks Silence On Lindsay Clancy Case; ‘Real Danger’

Judge Judy Sheindlin, who is widely known as iconic television jurist Judge Judy, commented on the Lindsay Clancy murder case in an on-the-street interview with TMZ conducted on Thursday.

When asked whether Clancy Clancy was guilty of murder, the said, “There’s no question that she killed her children, the only question is—is there an excuse for it? Make up your own mind on that one.”

When asked whether prosecutors should pursue a retrial, Judge Judy answered in the affirmative. “I think there’s a danger in not retrying,” she said.

Sheindlin was also asked about comments by South Carolina Representative Nancy Mace, who had called for Clancy to face public execution. She described those comments as “ridiculous.”

Clancy, a former labor and delivery nurse, is charged with three counts of first-degree murder in the January 24, 2023, deaths of her children; Cora, 5; Dawson, 3; and Callan, then 8 months old—in the family’s Duxbury home. She has not disputed that she strangled the children with exercise bands before attempting suicide by jumping from a second-story window, an act that left her paralyzed.

The defense argued she lacked criminal responsibility due to postpartum psychosis. Prosecutors contended she acted with knowledge of her conduct. After a trial lasting several weeks and seven days of deliberations, the jury reported it could not reach a unanimous verdict.

The charges against Clancy remain in place as of this report. She continues to be held at Tewksbury Hospital, a state psychiatric facility, without bail.

Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz has not announced a decision on whether to retry the case on first-degree murder charges, seek reduced charges, pursue a plea agreement, or take another course. Cruz stated after the mistrial that no decision would be made immediately and that the office would address next steps at an official court proceeding.
