JUST IN: Beloved Designated Survivor Actor Dead at 42

Adan Canto, the versatile actor known for his roles in “The Cleaning Lady,” “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” and “Designated Survivor,” has passed away at the age of 42 after a private battle with appendiceal cancer.

His death on Monday has left the entertainment industry in mourning.

Canto’s career was marked by a range of dynamic roles. In “The Cleaning Lady,” he portrayed the gangster Arman Morales, a character that brought him significant acclaim. His performance alongside Élodie Yung, who played the lead character Thony De La Rosa, was a highlight of the series. The show’s second season concluded with his character ending up in prison, leaving a significant impact on the storyline.

Born in Mexico and raised in Texas, Canto’s journey into the spotlight began with a career in music. He wrote songs for Mexican TV shows and films before transitioning to acting. His first significant TV role was in “Estado de Gracia” in 2009, followed by his American acting debut in the Fox crime thriller “The Following” in 2013.

Canto appeared to be a Tucker Carlson fan as his recent ‘like’ on X, formerly known as Twitter, was Carlson’s interview with President Donald Trump.


Canto’s filmography is diverse, including roles in “Mixology,” “Narcos,” “Blood and Oil,” and “Second Chance.” His portrayal of the superhero Sunspot in “X-Men: Days of Future Past” in 2014 was a notable milestone. In 2016, he joined the cast of “Designated Survivor” as Vice President Aaron Shore, a role that garnered him widespread recognition.

His talents extended beyond acting, with Canto directing two short films, “Before Tomorrow” in 2014 and “The Shot” in 2020. His other film credits include “Amanda and Jack Go Glamping,” “2 Hearts,” “Bruised,” “The Devil Below,” and “Agent Game.”

Warner Bros. Television and Fox Entertainment, in a joint statement, expressed their deep sorrow over Canto’s passing.

“We are heartbroken to learn of the passing of Adan Canto. A wonderful actor and dear friend, we were honored to have him as part of the Warner Bros. Television and Fox Entertainment families since his U.S. debut in ‘The Following’ more than a decade ago,” they said in a joint statement.

“Most recently, he lit up the screen in ‘The Cleaning Lady’ with a powerful performance that showcased his artistry, range, depth and vulnerability. This is an unfathomable loss, and we grieve alongside his wife Stephanie, their children and loved ones. We will miss Adan dearly.”

Canto is survived by his wife, Stephanie Ann Canto, and their two children, Roman Alder and Eve Josephine. His last Instagram post from June 2022, was a heartfelt tribute to his family.
