JUST IN: Biden’s Desperate Move To ‘Secure’ Border Fails On DAY ONE
U.S. officials along the southern border have reported that the number of illegal crossings actually increased on the first day following President Joe Biden’s last-minute executive order to restrict access for asylum seekers.
Fox News cameras stationed along the U.S.-Mexico border captured stunning video showing hundreds of migrants making their way through gaping holes in fencing before coming to a rest as they waited for deputies with U.S. Customs and Border (CPB) patrol to pick them up for transport and processing. The video, taken along the San Diego corridor, is a stark reminder that President Biden’s recent uptick in anti-migrant rhetoric has come too little, too late as more than nine million migrants are believed to have arrived since he took office.

CPB sources who spoke with Fox reported a daily addition of approximately 4,000 illegal migrants in a single day as well as 1,500 crossings at designated ports of entry. President Biden’s executive order, signed on Tuesday, would shut down the border if daily crossings exceeded 2,500 over a weeklong average, opening up only after a consistent reduction to 1,500 or fewer.
The move has driven a wedge between Biden and progressive Democrats who accused the president of backsliding on commitments made to implement a more “humane” approach to immigration in the years following severe restrictions by the Trump administration. Leaders of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus released a joint statement on Tuesday saying “such measures impede progress and harm migrants fleeing violence and persecution, who otherwise would present a credible and meritorious case for asylum,” Newsweek reported.
“I am concerned that it doesn’t matter what he ends up doing, Republicans will negate it and say that it is not enough,” Rep. Delia C. Ramirez (D-Ill.) told the Washington Post. “And so putting at risk our own values, and believing that people have the right to seek asylum in order to try to silence those that hate immigrants, I don’t believe is the kind of strategy that is going to help us win the election in November.”
Immigration remains a top issue for most voters in the 2024 cycle, the outlet adds, based on recent polls. Control of the border garnered 16% among respondents asked about their top issue, coming in third behind the economy and preserving American democracy. High-profile incidents, including the killing of University of Georgia student Laken Riley by a recent migrant in April, have exacerbated the tension felt by Americans over Biden’s handling of immigration. In that case, Biden’s Department of Homeland Security previously captured and released the suspect, who went on to take Riley’s life.
