A suspicious bag left outside of Turning Point USA’s headquarters in Phoenix, Arizona, led to a call for a bomb squad on Wednesday, just a week after the assassination of the group’s founder, Charlie Kirk.

The bag was spotted outside the organization on Wednesday morning, according to a spokesperson from the Phoenix Police Department. A bomb robot showed up on the scene, along with an official from the bomb squad who was decked out in Explosive Ordinance Disposal gear.

Police cleared the street outside the building out of an abundance of caution. As of this writing, it’s not clear what, if anything, was found inside the bag.

“There is not a threat associated with this incident. Updates will be given out as they become available,” authorities stated. Yellow crime scene tape has been set up around the scene to protect any potential evidence.

A funeral for Kirk is scheduled to be held this coming Sunday at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, which is the venue where the Arizona Cardinals play.

The TPUSA founder was most well-known for debates with college students at on-campus events, such as the one where he was assassinated. During these debates, Kirk attempted to hold open conversations with students on important topics such as transgenderism, abortion, and gun control.

Events were put together by his organization, which was co-founded alongside his mentor, Bill Montgomery. Montgomery passed away at the age of 80 in the summer of 2020 due to complications from the coronavirus, just eight years after starting TPUSA with Kirk.

Montgomery first met the charismatic young conservative when he was just 18. He heard Kirk speak during a college event and soon after took him under his wing, guiding him into the realm of politics.

“Montgomery provided funding for Turning Point USA to get off the ground, and reportedly advised Kirk to skip college and dedicate himself to making the organization one of the most influential in the nation,” The Daily Mail reported. “Following the Republican’s death, several memorials have popped up across the nation, including one where a 19-year-old was arrested for destruction.”

Ryder Corral, the suspect responsible for vandalizing the memorial, is being charged with criminal damage and disorderly conduct for kicking over flowers, vases, flags, and balloons as he progressed through the public tribute last Sunday morning.

Corral was captured in video footage and photographs sporting the same t-shirt and outfit that was worn by Kirk’s assassin, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, when he murdered the conservative activist.
