JUST IN: Florida Republican’s Husband Tragically Dies In Freak Accident
The husband of Florida’s Republican State Senate president died in a tragic accident on Wednesday while hiking through Bryce Canyon National Park in Utah.
John Passidomo, 72, was hiking with his wife, Senate President Kathleen Passidomo, 70, when he sustained injuries from a fall taken into a canyon. The medical report states that he died as a result of “massive trauma to his head, among other very serious injuries,” according to the Daily Mail.
The Passidomos met while studying in law school and were just shy of celebrating their 45th wedding anniversary.
Fellow hikers were the first to reach John Passidomo after his fall, staying with him until he could be transported to a regional trauma center in St. George, Utah where he was treated by “the very best medical teams.”

After keeping him for a day, doctors informed President Kathleen Passidomo that her husband would not survive. John Passidomo passed away at 3:21 pm EDT surrounded by his wife and three daughters.
A statement from the Florida Senate called their hiking trip one of “many great adventures they shared during their five decades together.” Their final days were marked “by many special moments, beautiful scenery, and wonderful reflections on their lifetime together.”
He was “very fit and active, with overall excellent health at age 72” and “listed as an organ donor, and the President wanted to honor those wishes.” The statement added that there were matches for “several of the First Gentleman’s organs.”
“The President has lost the love of her life, and is absolutely devastated by this sudden and unexpected accident,” it goes on, saying the couple had discussed “plans to live out their golden years watching their grandchildren grow up.”
Tributes from other Florida officials rolled in upon the news, with Governor Ron DeSantis calling the departed “a good man.”
Utah’s Lt. Gov. Deidre Henderson added, “The state of Utah offers our sincere condolences to Pres. Passidomo, her family, and those in the state of Florida who are dealing with the shock of this terrible news.”
Politics was not unknown to John Passidomo. He served as a city council member and vice mayor of Naples, Florida, from 1990 to 1992. Years later, in 2010, his wife was elected to Florida’s House of Representatives and rose to Senate President for the 2022-2024 year term.
President Kathleen Passidomo and her family are “taking comfort in the fact their great loss has resulted in a life-saving gift for other families.”
