JUST IN: Jasmine Crockett Officially Faces Consequences For ‘Reprehensible’ Comments
Texas Democratic Rep. Jasmine Crockett is now officially facing consequences for her controversial remarks about Texas Gov. Greg Abbott after House Republicans filed a formal resolution to censure her on Wednesday.
Rep. Randy Weber (R-TX), who authored the measure, confirmed the development in a post on X, writing: “I have officially FILED the censure resolution against Rep. Jasmine Crockett. She must be censured and held accountable for the venomous rhetoric she spews as a representative of the Democratic Party.”
The resolution cites Crockett’s March 22 speech at a Human Rights Campaign event, where she referred to Gov. Abbott as “Governor Hot Wheels” and a “hot ass mess.” Critics slammed the remarks as an attack on Abbott’s disability—he has used a wheelchair since he was paralyzed from the waist down in a 1984 accident.
“The story of our great governor of Texas is one of unwavering resilience and perseverance,” Weber told Fox News on Tuesday. “Meanwhile, the actions of Jasmine Crockett – stooping to vile levels of discrimination and despicable political attacks – are nothing short of reprehensible.”
Weber added: “It’s painfully obvious she was never taught a single thing about Texas class, as her behavior is a disgrace to everything Texas and the United States stands for.”
The resolution, which was referred to committee, formally accuses Crockett of engaging in conduct “unbecoming of a Member of Congress.” It calls for her to be publicly censured, present herself on the House floor for the announcement, and have the resolution read aloud by the Speaker.
This isn’t the first time Crockett has stirred backlash. The resolution also points to a May 2024 hearing where she allegedly made inflammatory remarks about another member’s appearance during a heated exchange.
Crockett has since attempted to walk back her latest remarks, denying any reference to Abbott’s disability.
“I wasn’t thinking about the governor’s condition—I was thinking about the planes, trains, and automobiles he used to transfer migrants into communities led by Black mayors, deliberately stoking tension and fear among the most vulnerable,” Crockett said on X. “Literally, the next line I said was that he was a ‘Hot A** Mess,’ referencing his terrible policies.”
But her explanation has done little to quell the growing outrage.
“Jasmine…words have meanings & actions have consequences,” Weber posted in a follow-up message. “I look forward to introducing my resolution to censure you for your words and actions.”
Crockett responded Tuesday, calling the resolution politically motivated and accusing Republicans of selective outrage.
“Keep that same energy for all people, not just your political adversaries,” she wrote. “Instead of obsessing over and hanging on to my every word, maybe my political foes should focus on doing the work of the people who elected us to improve their lives.”
