JUST IN: Jaw-Dropping Clip Shows High-Profile Dem Getting Arrested In His Underwear

Newly released dash cam footage shows the leading Democrat contender to run for governor of South Carolina getting arrested in a wild exchange, as the candidate, dressed only in his underwear, unleashed into a profanity-laced tirade at police officers while referring to himself as “God” and “Superman.”

William “Mullins” McLeod, 53, is facing calls to bow out of the gubernatorial race just days after he entered it after footage of his May arrest was released to the public for the first time.

The prominent attorney was stopped in downtown Charleston while “yelling at the top of his lungs” and wearing only underwear and shoes, according to a police report. Responding officers further noted that he showed signs “typical of an individual under the influence of a stimulant narcotic.”

McLeod refused to give officers his name and made references to his upcoming race, at one point threatening to kick an opponent’s “f–king teeth in.” Instead of presenting his ID, the gubernatorial hopeful referred to himself only as “God” and “Superman,” the hour-long video, which was obtained through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request.

“It doesn’t matter, my friend, trust me,” McLeod told one officer when asked his name. “I’m one of the most just humans to ever walk this soil,” he said, adding, “Superman sounds good.”

McLeod also appeared to threaten rival lawmakers who could potentially challenge him in the gubernatorial race. “I’m gonna kick your f–king teeth in,” the Democrat candidate shouted at one point, seemingly in reference to Republican Attorney General Alan Wilson, who announced his bid for governor earlier this year.

McLeod was also heard uttering the n-word at least twice throughout the bizarre arrest and also refused to get out of the patrol car when he arrived at the jail, instead telling officers that he would sleep in the back.

“No, I’m not doing it, no. I’m not getting out of this car. It’s time to go to bed,” he shouted at an officer before he was dragged out and booked into the jail shortly after 1 a.m., according to a report from the New York Post.

The police reported noted that McLeod’s eyes were “extremely bloodshot and highly dilated … typical of an individual under the influence of a stimulant narcotic,” though it is not currently known whether he was tested for illicit drugs after his arrest.

McLeod — who unsuccessfully ran for governor in 2010 and previously served as chairman of the Charleston Democratic Party — is facing misdemeanor charges for disorderly conduct.

The Palmetto State Democratic Party leadership is now calling on McLeod to step down after footage of the arrest was released. “After reviewing the transcript of the dash cam footage from his recent arrest, it is clear that Mr. McLeod is navigating profound challenges and should focus on his mental and emotional well-being instead of a campaign for governor,” the chair of the South Carolina Democratic Party, Christale Spain, said in a statement Wednesday.

“We offer him compassion and pray he finds the support he needs,” the statement added.

McLeod’s campaign has yet to issue a response, though the embattled candidate has referred to his arrest as “unlawful” in a recent interview announcing his candidacy. “The only thing I’d ask the voters is to please give me a little bit of grace and know that long before we go to Election Day, they’ll know exactly what happened,” he told the New York Post

“And when they learn what happened around my unlawful arrest, it will be a reason why I absolutely need to be our state’s governor,” he said, adding that he had been exercising his “God-given, constitutional right to be in a public place” when he was arrested.
