JUST IN: JFK Airport Scene Turns Violent As Gunfire Breaks Out
Gunfire broke out near JFK Airport early Tuesday after a Customs and Border Protection officer opened fire during a heated confrontation sparked by a traffic crash, authorities said.
Shots were fired near Terminal 8 around 4:48 a.m., rattling travelers during the busy early-morning rush. One vehicle was struck by gunfire, but no injuries were reported, according to ABC7.
Port Authority police said the incident stemmed from an apparent road rage dispute after two vehicles were involved in a minor accident on a nearby highway.

Officers responding to the scene found an on-duty CBP officer who reported being assaulted by the other driver following the crash. The officer told investigators he discharged his service weapon several times during the confrontation.
Authorities have not said what prompted the officer to fire, and the shooting remains under investigation by the Port Authority.
The incident snarled traffic on the Van Wyck Expressway, forcing officials to funnel drivers into a single lane leading into the airport and causing significant delays.
Officials emphasized that the investigation is ongoing as they work to determine exactly how the encounter escalated into gunfire.
