JUST IN: Journalist’s Hit Piece Against Trump Official Immediately Backfires

Published

on

An attempted smear campaign against a top Trump official turned into a public embarrassment Tuesday after critics pointed out that the journalist behind the “exclusive” story shared a strikingly similar background.

Julia Davis, a self-described “Russia analyst” and frequent Trump critic, touted her report from the OCCRP (Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project), revealing that Sergio Gor, President Donald Trump’s director of presidential personnel, was born in the former Soviet Union.

Davis posted the link on X, formerly Twitter, writing: “Exclusive: Top Trump Adviser Sergio Gor Was Born In the Soviet Union.”

But the so-called exposé quickly unraveled — not because the details were inaccurate, but because users immediately reminded Davis that she herself was born in the Soviet Union.

“Just like you!” one user replied.”

“So are we saying now that everybody from the former Soviet Union is what? What’s your point?” another user wrote. “Because what I’m getting from you is we shouldn’t trust you or anybody else from Russia. What a self-hating thing to say.”

Gor, 38, has become a prominent figure in Trump’s second term, overseeing thousands of personnel decisions. The OCCRP report revealed that Gor was born Sergio Gorokhovsky in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, a Soviet republic at the time of his birth in 1986. He immigrated to the United States as a child and later worked for Senator Rand Paul before joining Trump World.

Though he long avoided disclosing his birthplace, claiming only that he was “not born in Russia,” recent investigative reports confirmed he immigrated to the United States after spending part of his childhood in Malta.

Garson confirmed to OCCRP that Gor was born in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

The article pointed to Sergio Gor’s past refusal to publicly disclose his birthplace, implying a secretive background. But Gor has lived in the United States for decades, built a career in Republican politics, and co-founded Winning Team Publishing alongside Donald Trump Jr.

Gor previously served under Senator Rand Paul and joined Paul on a 2018 policy trip to Moscow. Gor also played a key role on Trump’s 2020 campaign finance team and now holds a critical position overseeing personnel for the Trump administration.
