JUST IN: Kari Lake Gets Unexpected Boost As Major ‘October Surprise’ Blindsides Her Opponent

Kari Lake’s campaign for Senate took an unexpected turn today after a bombshell court ruling exposed sealed divorce records from her opponent’s past.

Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) who filed for divorce from his then-wife, Kate Gallego, in 2016, lost a lengthy legal battle to keep the case private. The Washington Free Beacon won a 10-month court fight, culminating in the Arizona Supreme Court’s rejection of Gallego’s final appeal to keep the documents sealed.

In 2016, Ruben Gallego took steps to seal the divorce record. His memorandum to the court stated that Kate Gallego “had not yet been served” with divorce papers and “her attorney entered an appearance” that had not yet occurred in the case, highlighting that she was “likely to give birth any day,” according to The Washington Free Beacon. The divorce petition from Gallego said that the “parties’ marriage is irretrievably broken” and saw “no reasonable prospect of reconciliation.”

However, it seemed that Kate was caught off guard by her husband’s actions. In her response to the divorce filing in February 2017, she expressed being “without knowledge of information sufficient to form a belief” regarding her husband’s assertion that their marriage was irreparably damaged, and she refuted the claim.

The details from the now-public file reveal that Ruben Gallego sought to have his wife pay the divorce costs, arguing he was “entitled to an award of attorney’s fees” under an Arizona law that allows courts to grant such fees based on various criteria. Kate countered this in her February 2017 filing, requesting the court to “enter an order that husband contribute to wife’s attorney’s fees and costs.”

In his initial request to the court, Ruben Gallego aimed to block any claims to “long-term spousal maintenance” from Kate, urging the judge to rule that “neither party is in need of nor entitled to an award of long term spousal maintenance.” Despite her initial claim that she was “entitled to spousal maintenance,” Kate ultimately relinquished any such rights in the final divorce, which confirmed that both were “financially independent and no financial assistance by means of spousal maintenance is required now or hereafter.” The divorce was ultimately finalized in April 2017.

On Wednesday, the Arizona Supreme Court declined the Gallegos’ plea to maintain the confidentiality of redacted records while they appealed previous court decisions. The release of these records introduces a level of personal examination that Ruben Gallego, a Democrat, sought to sidestep during the critical final phase of his Senate campaign against Republican Kari Lake. Gallego has consistently stated that his post-traumatic stress disorder from serving in the Iraq War was a significant factor in his divorce.

Lake mentioned on the ‘Broomhead Show’ on Wednesday that the divorce records contain “some damning information” about him. “We don’t know the truth about Ruben.”

“We have a son who did not choose to run for office but we need to protect him and his privacy and that’s all we’ve been asking this whole time,” claimed Gallego. “Kari Lake and her allies know that because the judge told them there’s nothing there and yet they continue to attack and of course we’re worried.” For several weeks, Gallego has maintained a lead over Lake in what remains a close race for a crucial Senate seat.
