A deadly police-involved shooting occurred near 14th and Vliet streets in Milwaukee, roughly 1.2 miles from Fiserv Forum, the primary venue for the Republican National Convention. The incident has drawn a significant police presence, including the Secret Service.

Witnesses reported to WISN 12 News that the incident began with an altercation between two men in King Park, during which one man brandished a knife. The situation escalated when numerous officers arrived, startling the men. According to witnesses, the man wielding the knife was subsequently shot by multiple officers, though this account has yet to be officially confirmed by police.

The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office has not confirmed its involvement, but several sources indicated to WISN 12 News that the individual shot has died.

The officers involved in the shooting are reportedly from Columbus, Ohio, not from the Milwaukee Police Department. A statement from the Columbus Fraternal Order of Police confirmed that no officers were injured during the incident.

This week, Milwaukee is hosting police from 63 departments across 24 states and Washington, D.C., along with 44 Wisconsin agencies, to ensure security for the Republican National Convention. Despite the proximity, the shooting incident appears unrelated to the RNC.

WISN 12 News sources also noted that the police cordon has now extended to 17th and Vliet streets.
