JUST IN: MAGA Congressman Takes Major Step Toward Run For Governor In Arizona

Arizona Congressman Andy Biggs (R-AZ) has taken the first official step toward a potential run for governor in 2026. In a social media post on X, formerly Twitter, Biggs announced that he filed a statement of interest, signaling his consideration for the state’s top executive position.

“Today, I filed a formal expression of my interest in running for Governor of Arizona in 2026,” Biggs wrote in a statement. “I love the greatest state in the Union, Arizona. Arizona has a bright future but will need strong leadership to reach its full potential.”

“I have been honored to serve Arizona at the state and federal levels and will bring my experience home to my native state to help it fulfill its tremendous capacity. I have a firm understanding of what the state needs to thrive,” he added.

While his announcement stops short of an official campaign launch, Biggs made it clear that he is seriously weighing the decision and intends to engage with Arizonans throughout the process. Biggs, a staunch ally of President Donald Trump, has consistently championed the ‘America First’ philosophy since taking office in 2017 to represent the state’s 5th congressional district.

Amid Trump’s federal indictment, Biggs stood by the former president, criticizing the legal proceedings as biased against conservatives. In a recent opinion piece for Newsweek, Biggs stressed the Republican Party’s leverage to enact Trump’s agenda, stating, “Trump world is the center of global political gravity.”

“Congress must deliver on President Trump’s agenda: secure the border (including mass deportation), battle and tame inflation by reducing the federal government’s structural deficit which fuels the out-of-control national debt, and ignite the economy through energy, tax, and regulatory policy that unleashes capital spending and produces economic opportunity and expansion,” Biggs wrote.

Biggs began his political career in the Arizona state legislature. He served in the Arizona House of Representatives from 2003 to 2011 and then in the Arizona Senate from 2011 to 2017, where he was President of the Senate for his last four years. As a state legislator, Biggs was known for his conservative stance on fiscal and social issues.

In 2016, Biggs was elected to the United States House of Representatives, representing Arizona’s 5th congressional district. His election to Congress followed a narrow primary victory, which he won by just 27 votes. In Congress, Biggs is known for his conservative views and is a member of the House Freedom Caucus, which he chaired from 2019 to 2021.

Democrat Katie Hobbs is the current Governor of Arizona, having taken office on January 2, 2023. She is the state’s 24th governor and a member of the Democratic Party. Prior to serving as governor, Hobbs was Arizona’s Secretary of State from 2019 to 2023.

Before Katie Hobbs, the governor was Doug Ducey, a Republican who served from January 5, 2015, to January 2, 2023. Ducey is noted for his tenure as state treasurer prior to his governorship, during which he opposed various tax proposals and supported educational funding initiatives. He was elected in 2014 and then re-elected in 2018
