The suspect in Monday’s ambush shooting targeting Border Patrol agents in McAllen, Texas has been identified as a Michigan man who reportedly scribbled a mysterious Latin message on his car before carrying out the attack.

The gunman, who was killed after opening fire on Border Patrol agents, has been identified as Ryan Louis Mosqueda. He managed to squeeze off “dozens” of rounds at agents as they entered the facility, located not far from the U.S. border with Mexico, before he was neutralized.

McAllen Police Chief Victor Rodriguez said Mosqueda was carrying a “utility vest” in addition to the rifle when federal agents returned fire. After Mosqueda was killed, police recovered additional firearms, ammunition and backpacks.

“There are many, many more rounds of ammunition in his backpack,” Rodriguez said. Investigators also uncovered a message written on the outside of the gunman’s white two-door sedan. which may provide insight as Mosqueda’s motive.

According to a report from the Daily Mail, the Latin phrase “CORDIS DIE” was spray-painted in black on the driver’s side. The phrase, which translates to “Judgement Day” or “Heart of the Day,” is used as the name of the anarchist terror group led by Raul Menendez in Call of Duty: Black Ops II and Call of Duty: Strike Team.

McAllen Police Department officer Ismael García, a 10-year veteran of the force, was shot in the knee during the attack. Two additional officers suffered injuries of unknown severity, the Associated Press reported.

“What it means, or whether or not it is an underlying reason for him being here, I do not know,” Rodriguez said when asked about the graffiti.

Police say Mosqueda is linked to a Michigan address, though he was reported missing from a Weslaco, Texas, address around 4 a.m. Monday. Weslaco is located about 20 miles from the Border Patrol facility.

“An hour and a few minutes later, he was at this particular location opening fire on the federal building and our federal agents,” Rodriguez said. Additional details about the missing person report, including who filed it, are unclear as of this report.

Rodriguez said there is no ongoing threat to the public, but it is unknown if any other people were involved in the attack. The FBI is taking the lead on the investigation into the events leading up to the attack, as well as the gunman’s motive.

The shooting comes just days after a police officer in North Texas was shot by a heavily armed mob outside an ICE detention facility in Johnson County.

Officers from the Alvarado Police Department responded to the Prairieland Detention Center shortly after 11 p.m. Friday after receiving a call about a suspicious person, who was believed to be armed with a gun, skulking outside the facility. The first responding officer attempted to confront the individual, at which point multiple people responded with gunfire.

The suspects were reportedly dressed in black with face masks and reportedly attempted to disable security cameras around the facility prior to the shooting. Several suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident and the investigation is ongoing.
