JUST IN: Mexico President Cowers In Face Of Tariffs, Agrees To Send 10,000 Troops To Border
President Donald Trump announced that he has agreed to “immediately pause” tariffs on the nation of Mexico after he had a “very friendly” conversation with the country’s president, Claudia Sheinbaum.
“I just spoke with President Claudia Sheinbaum of Mexico. It was a very friendly conversation wherein she agreed to immediately supply 10,000 Mexican Soldiers on the Border separating Mexico and the United States,” Trump stated in a post published on Truth Social.
“These soldiers will be specifically designated to stop the flow of fentanyl, and illegal migrants into our Country,” he continued.
“We further agreed to immediately pause the anticipated tariffs for a one month period during which we will have negotiations headed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of Treasury Scott Bessent, and Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick, and high-level Representatives of Mexico. I look forward to participating in those negotiations, with President Sheinbaum, as we attempt to achieve a “deal” between our two Countries,” the commander-in-chief added.
The 25 percent tariffs on Mexico were scheduled to go into effect at midnight. Sheinbaum also took to social media, where she made an X post discussing the pause, revealing that she and Trump came to an agreement concerning security and trade, according to CNN.
The report revealed that Mexico is going to be reinforcing the southern border the United States shares with them with 10,000 troops from its National Guard. The U.S. committed to working closely with them to help stop high-powered weapons from being smuggled into Mexico.
“During his first term, Trump had also threatened to place tariffs on Mexico, before backing away several days later when Mexico responded with plans to increase border security,” NBC News said. “Trump also said on social media that he had spoken with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau Monday morning and would speak with him again in the afternoon.”
A lot of liberals and even some folks on the right side of the political spectrum criticized the strategy of implementing tariffs, claiming it would make goods more expensive for Americans.
“The White House said in the executive order issuing the tariffs that the move was in response to the flow of fentanyl and immigrants coming into the country from Canada and Mexico, which Trump was declaring a national emergency. Under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, the president has authority over trade in a national emergency,” the report continued.
“We pay hundreds of Billions of Dollars to SUBSIDIZE Canada. Why? There is no reason. We don’t need anything they have. We have unlimited Energy, should make our own Cars, and have more Lumber than we can ever use. Without this massive subsidy, Canada ceases to exist as a viable Country. Harsh but true! Therefore, Canada should become our Cherished 51st State. Much lower taxes, and far better military protection for the people of Canada — AND NO TARIFFS!” Trump said in a post on Truth Social over the weekend.
According to Interior Secretary Douglas Burgum, who made an appearance on Fox News, “This isn’t a ‘trade war’ with Canada, or Mexico, or China — this is about fentanyl. We’ve had a massive invasion of our country.”
