JUST IN: MTG Floats Run For Higher Office
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) has made no official announcement—but behind the scenes, conversations about a potential 2026 Senate run are heating up. According to two individuals familiar with her thinking, the firebrand Republican from Georgia is seriously weighing a campaign, particularly if Governor Brian Kemp decides not to run.
Greene, widely seen as one of President Donald Trump’s staunchest allies in the House, is said to be actively evaluating the field. If Gov. Kemp doesn’t run, she believes she would “crush” the GOP primary contest,” one source told the Daily Caller on condition of anonymity, citing ongoing internal deliberations.
While Kemp would likely clear the field if he entered, Greene’s team appears confident that her loyal base and close alignment with Trump’s platform would give her a major advantage in a competitive primary. Kemp, who is term-limited, cannot seek re-election, leaving an open field that’s expected to grow even more crowded in the coming months.
The race to replace the Georgia Governor in 2026 is already drawing national attention, with both parties eyeing a high-stakes showdown in a state that has become a political battleground. Democrats are already shaping their field.

Atlanta, Georgia, USA, October 28, 2024: Marjorie Taylor Greene (MTG), U.S. representative for Georgia’s 14th congressional district, speaks at a Donald Trump election rally at Georgia Tech, Atlanta.
State Senator Jason Esteves was the first to declare, launching his campaign in April. Keisha Lance Bottoms, the former Atlanta mayor and Biden administration official, joined the race shortly after, announcing her bid on April 4.
On the Republican side, Attorney General Chris Carr is currently the most prominent candidate, having launched his campaign back in November 2024. Carr is running on a platform focused on job creation, public safety, and protecting constitutional rights.
However, many in the party still see Brian Kemp as the strongest option to take on Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff, should he decide to switch races and run for Senate instead. Though Kemp remains undecided, one source familiar with the primary dynamics told the Daily Caller that the GOP field is effectively “frozen” until Kemp reveals his plans.

Another source, requesting anonymity, said Kemp is likely to signal his intentions by Memorial Day. In the event that Kemp declines a Senate run, Rep. Greene is seen as a potential game-changer.
“I think if she got in tomorrow, she’d raise millions of dollars online in the first week,” said a source familiar with Georgia politics. “If I was one of the other members of Congress that was looking at the race, I would not be fired up about running against her.”
Greene’s rising influence within the MAGA movement and close alignment with President Donald Trump would make her a formidable contender. The source also noted that a Trump endorsement is never guaranteed—but added, “it would be extremely unlikely that the president would endorse a candidate running against Greene.”
Regardless of the GOP lineup, the Democratic primary is expected to be less combative. “Whoever is in the runoff is beating the hell out of each other and going into debt,” the source said of the Republican field, while predicting that Ossoff will “cruise to the nomination” and enter the general election with a massive war chest.
