JUST IN: Multiple Arrests Made In Matthew Perry’s Death
The death of “Friends” star Matthew Perry has finally led to the arrest of several individuals who Los Angeles authorities believe may be responsible for providing him with the drugs that contributed to his death.
Perry was found dead in his hot tub last October after ingesting a deadly amount of ketamine, a drug that in recent years has been advocated for mental health treatment by new-age physicians but is also an illegal controlled substance. Sources close to the investigation, which began in May, told ABC News that arrests were made in the early hours of Thursday morning and included a physician. Charges are expected to be announced later in the day by U.S. Attorney E. Martin Estrada and personnel with the Drug Enforcement Administration.

An autopsy revealed that Perry died from acute effects of ketamine and had a large concentration of the drug in his blood system at the time he fell asleep and went underwater. He was later discovered by an aide. Since then, investigators began a sweeping inquiry into Hollywood’s known drug distributors as they sought information about who might have provided the actor with his personal stash. Perry was known to be receiving regular infusions of ketamine for anxiety and depression and had his last injection just one and a half weeks before his death. However, a medical examiner noted the half life of the drug meant that his last infusion would not have been able to cause his loss of consciousness, meaning it’s possible that Perry could have taken more on his own.
The official cause of death listed by the coroner cites drowning, coronary artery disease and buprenorphine. The manner of death was ruled an accident, the outlet added. Investigators also located other prescriptions and loose pills around his home but none were found near the hot tub where he died. In addition to the DEA, other authorities who participated in the probe included the Los Angeles Police Department, United States Postal Service and the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Perry was best known for his role as Chandler Bing on the hit series “Friends” which ran for 10 seasons beginning in 1994. The comedy series focused on six friends who made their way in New York City, overcoming job hurdles while navigating young romantic lives. As the popularity of “Friends” grew, so too did Perry’s struggles, according to his colleagues. By the fifth season, he was noticeably bloated from the effects of alcohol abuse, and years after the show ended in 2004 he admitted to having spent more than $9 million in his pursuit to get sober.
