JUST IN: Multiple Injured In Mass Stabbing Attack At Michigan Walmart
At least 11 people were stabbed in a targeted mass stabbing attack at a Walmart in Traverse City, Michigan on Saturday night.
The carnage began shortly after 5 p.m. when the alleged attacker began randomly stabbing shoppers in various sections throughout the store in Traverse City, located about 255 miles northwest of Detroit. “The whole store started screaming and running,” employee Tasha Nash told Channel2 Now.
“There was a guy with a knife — he stabbed six people. I saw someone stabbed in the eye,” she added.
The assailant was reportedly taken down by a pair of brave bystanders before authorities arrived and took him into custody, according to witnesses from the scene and the Michigan State Police. Photos from Channel 2 Now show the suspect being loaded into a Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office vehicle after the attack.

One shopper who arrived at the store moments after the rampage told the outlet that she was shocked to see so many first responders on the scene. “We were getting ready to go into Walmart as this was happening,” one witness wrote on X shortly after police asked the public to vacate the area. “Of course, we weren’t allowed to go in. I have never seen so many police cars, ambulances, fire trucks, rescue vehicles and crime scene vehicles! They sent the employees home and told all of the customers to leave. Wow.”
At least 11 victims were transported to Munson Medical Center, the largest hospital in Northern Michigan, where they are currently being treated for injuries of varying degrees of severity. It remains unclear whether there are any fatalities as of this report.
“Munson Healthcare is aware of the tragic incident that occurred earlier today at the Walmart in Traverse City,” the agency said in a statement. “Our thoughts are with all of those affected by this event, and we are grateful to the first responders and law enforcement for their swift action. As a result, our Emergency Department is currently experiencing a higher-than-usual volume of patients.”
Police have not yet released the suspect’s identity, nor have they provided any insight into a potential motive, stating only that information is “limited” at this time. In a social media post, Deputy FBI Director Dan Bongino said the bureau is aware of the situation and is standing by to assist with the investigation.
