JUST IN: Multiple Victims Reported, Including Two Police Officers In Minneapolis Shooting

Multiple people were shot, including two police officers, in a shooting that occurred at an apartment building located at 15 East Grant Street in Minneapolis’ Loring Park neighborhood.

Minneapolis police were dispatched to the building on a report of a disturbance involving a resident who had been reportedly been evicted that day, according to a report from local outlet WCCO. Gunfire erupted at or around the time officers entered the building.

Seven people were later transported to Hennepin Healthcare (HCMC) after suffering gunshot wounds. Hospital officials confirmed that one of those patients died and six others were injured. Two of the injured were Minneapolis police officers.

One officer was shot in the stomach and was in surgery, while the second officer was shot in the leg and had non-life-threatening injuries. A high-ranking official told WCCO that the two officers were likely to recover. Multiple law enforcement sources further told the outlet that the gunman died by suicide at the scene, though that information has not been confirmed as of this report.

No official identification of the deceased person, the injured civilians, or the shooter had been released as of late afternoon. Conditions of the remaining injured were not immediately detailed by authorities.

“The Minneapolis Police Department is on the scene of a shooting in the area of 15 E Grant St. involving multiple victims, including two police officers. Please avoid the area. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available,” the City of Minneapolis said in a statement.

“Grateful to law enforcement actively working to ensure the safety of our neighbors in Downtown Minneapolis this afternoon. Minnesota is praying for our first responders,” Minnesota Governor Tim Walz said in a statement of his own.

Several state and local law enforcement agencies responded to the scene, as well as federal agents with the FBI and ATF. FBI Director Kash Patel said the bureau would “offer any and all resources necessary to assist local authorities.”
