JUST IN: Nancy Pelosi’s Diagnosis Is Revealed After Serious Fall Overseas
On Friday, an American congressional delegation gathered in Luxembourg to commemorate a pivotal chapter in World War II history: the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge. The ceremony honored the sacrifice of Allied forces, including the more than 19,000 Americans who perished in the brutal winter campaign.
During the event, Nancy Pelosi sustained an injury, according to a statement issued by her spokesperson. “While traveling with a bipartisan Congressional delegation in Luxembourg to mark the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge, Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi sustained an injury during an official engagement and was admitted to the hospital for evaluation,” spokesperson Ian Krager said in a statement early Friday.
Krager revealed that Pelosi was “receiving excellent treatment from doctors and medical professionals.” However, the severity of her injury became clearer later in the day, with insiders confirming a diagnosis of a fractured hip.
Pelosi suffered a “hard” fall on the marble stairs at the Grand Ducal Palace, according to a source who spoke to The New York Times on the condition of anonymity. The former Speaker of the House reportedly fractured her hip due to the mishap. Insiders from both California and Washington, D.C., who requested anonymity because they were not cleared to speak on her behalf, indicated that although doctors are optimistic about a straightforward surgical repair, it remains uncertain whether the procedure will take place in Luxembourg or back in the United States.
Doctors reportedly believe the damage can be repaired with routine surgery, though it is unclear whether she will undergo the procedure in Luxembourg or return to the United States. A source first informed DailyMail that she sustained injuries from falling down some stairs during her visit.
Pelosi usually navigates in 4-inch stiletto heels. In a group photo of the delegation at the palace, which the House of the Grand Duke released on Friday, Pelosi sported a black pair of heels.
The Grand Ducal Palace in Luxembourg is a historic residence of the Grand Duke and a symbol of the country’s monarchy. Known for its striking Flemish Renaissance architecture, the palace serves as both an official residence and a venue for state ceremonies.
Recovery from a fractured hip, especially at Pelosi’s age, is often lengthy and challenging. It typically involves surgery to repair the fracture, followed by weeks of physical therapy and rehabilitation. For older adults, such injuries can significantly impact mobility and quality of life, with recovery times ranging anywhere from three to six months, depending on the severity of the fracture and overall health.
Pelosi’s injury, however, adds to a growing list of concerns surrounding the fitness of Washington’s aging political elite. The timing of Pelosi’s fall comes just days after Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, 82, suffered his own mishap, spraining his wrist during a private Senate lunch. While McConnell’s team quickly reassured the public of his recovery, these incidents are fueling renewed debate over whether leaders well into their 80s can effectively serve the demands of their office.
