JUST IN: Rumored Trump Nominee For Top Post Breaks His Silence: ‘Appreciate The Speculation’

Florida Democratic Representative Jared Moskowitz swiftly addressed swirling rumors Tuesday that he was being considered for a top role in President-elect Donald Trump’s administration, stating unequivocally that he intends to remain in Congress.

“I appreciate the speculation, but I am staying in Congress and running for re-election. It’s an honor to serve the people of Florida’s 23rd district,” Moskowitz wrote in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Tuesday morning. The response comes amid reports that Moskowitz—a vocal critic of Trump during his presidency—was being considered to lead the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in a second Trump administration.

“To be clear, nothing was ever offered,” Moskowitz added in a follow-up post, extinguishing further speculation.

The chatter surrounding Moskowitz’s potential FEMA leadership reflected Trump’s unconventional approach to appointments, where bipartisan picks and political surprises have occasionally surfaced. Moskowitz, who served as Florida’s Director of Emergency Management under Republican Governor Ron DeSantis, earned bipartisan praise for his management of natural disasters, including hurricanes. His expertise led some observers to float his name for FEMA’s top post in the Trump administration.

According to CNN reports, two sources familiar with Trump’s deliberations rumored Moskowitz as a leading candidate to head the Federal Emergency Management Agency. An additional source close to Trump’s transition team corroborated that Moskowitz was under consideration. Details about a meeting between Moskowitz and Trump were never confirmed, but insiders viewed the congressman as a formidable contender for the position. If selected, Moskowitz would have become the highest-ranking Democrat in the Trump administration.

Moskowitz has a long history of public service in Florida, having previously served as the Director of the Florida Division of Emergency Management under Governor Ron DeSantis from 2019 to 2021. During his tenure, Moskowitz gained recognition for his bipartisan approach, particularly in coordinating Florida’s response to hurricanes and the COVID-19 pandemic. Before that, he served in the Florida House of Representatives from 2012 to 2019, where he was known for his advocacy on issues like education, healthcare, and disaster preparedness.

Moskowitz is also notable for his ability to navigate political divides, often working across the aisle despite being a Democrat in Republican-led state government roles. Since entering Congress, he has been vocal on topics like gun safety, climate change, and foreign affairs, aligning with his district’s priorities.

Moskowitz recently became the first member of his party to join the House’s Delivering Outstanding Government Efficiency (DOGE) Caucus. The bipartisan group is aligned with the forthcoming Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), an initiative led by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy under Trump’s administration.

“The time for staying in safe spaces is over,” Moskowitz told CNN earlier this month. “We should be able to go in spaces and have that conversation.”

While supportive of the DOGE Caucus’s objectives, Moskowitz has indicated that he may oppose certain proposals from Musk and Ramaswamy, particularly those he deems extreme, such as eliminating entire cabinet departments.
