JUST IN: Socialist ‘Freeloader’ Wins Closely Contested Mayoral Race In Major City

Community organizer Katie Wilson is poised to unseat Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell in a stunning upset for the city’s political establishment, Decision Desk HQ projected Wednesday after another big night for the progressive wing of the Democratic Party.

“We’re thrilled with the latest drop, which continues to trend in our direction. Ahead by almost 2,000 votes, we now believe that we’re in an insurmountable position,” Wilson’s campaign wrote on Facebook.

“We’re so grateful to all the volunteers who have powered this grassroots campaign to victory,” the post added. “We look forward to hearing the mayor’s address to the city tomorrow. #thisisYOURcity.”

Harrell, a longtime fixture in Seattle politics, has yet to concede. Under Washington law, an automatic recount is only triggered if the margin is fewer than 2,000 votes and less than half a percentage point — though Harrell could still foot the bill for one himself.

The race, much like New York City’s, became a national test of strength between far-left activists and traditional Democrats. Ballot counting dragged on for days as Wilson, a self-styled progressive crusader, slowly clawed past the incumbent.

Despite a primary win over Harrell earlier this year, Wilson entered the general election as the underdog. Harrell crushed her in fundraising and had the city’s establishment firmly in his corner.

Wilson’s apparent victory follows another left-wing triumph last week, when New York voters elected democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani as mayor — a one-two punch signaling progressives’ growing power in blue strongholds.
