JUST IN: Taylor Swift’s Boyfriend To Produce Movie Linked To Biden’s Green Agenda

Any indication that Taylor Swift and her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, are in the tank for President Joe Biden is causing controversy on the internet. Now, a new report suggests Kelce will be behind the production of a movie linked to Biden’s at-all-costs commitment to his green agenda.

The film, titled “My Dead Friend Zoe,” credits Kelce as a producer and is financed with green energy tax credits enacted as part of the 2021 Inflation Reduction Act, a controversial omnibus bill passed by Democrats to prop up the economy during the pandemic. Starring Natalie Morales, Ed Harris, Morgan Freeman, and Sonequa Martin-Green, “My Dead Friend Zoe” chronicles the turbulent relationship between a Vietnam veteran and his granddaughter, who served in the Afghanistan war. It will appear at the SXSW Festival in March.

President Biden touted the Inflation Reduction Act upon its passage, citing its “tax provisions, grant programs, and other funding programs that will offer transformative benefits to working families; disadvantaged, underserved, and low-income communities; Tribes; rural areas; and other areas in need of economic development and growth,” according to the Post Millennial.

How the producers intend to square their film with those conditions for the tax break is unknown.

Working off of a relatively meager $10 million budget, the film took every break it could, but it’s unclear if Kelce as producer encouraged his team to take advantage of taxpayer funds to finance their project. Despite having never produced a film before, Kelce will be at the forefront of the first major film to take advantage of the Biden green tax credits.

Ray Maiello, a fellow producer of the film, said using taxpayer funds is an ideal way to de-risk the film for other private investors worried about backing a box office dud.

“Hollywood is risky, right? On a scale of one to 10, Hollywood, it is a 9.5. Especially in terms of independent film,” Maiello said. “These federal tax credits take the risk down to like a five.”

Kelce and Maiello are part of a team that plans to produce another film, titled “King Pleasure,” following the completion of “My Dead Friend Zoe.” Variety notes the producers are forging a trail in Hollywood that “could spark a trend… of employing the Inflation Reduction Act as a way to raise funds and bolster the flagging indie film sector.”
