JUST IN: Top College Football Coach ‘Blocked’ From Voting In Election
Top college football coach Dabo Swinney, known not only for his prowess on the field but also for his open faith and traditional values, faced an unexpected roadblock this election day.
Swinney, whose given name is William, said he encountered a mix-up at the polls when attempting to cast his vote. However, due to an apparent system glitch, Swinney discovered that someone else—“William Swinney”—had already voted in his name, leaving him temporarily unable to cast his ballot in person.
Swinney’s quick thinking identified the source of the error: his eldest son, Will Swinney, had likely been registered under the family’s shared last name and middle initial. “They done voted me out of the state,” Swinney joked.
“We’re 6-2 and 5-1 (in the Atlantic Coast Conference), man. They done shipped me off.”
Despite the initial setback, Swinney was ultimately able to complete a provisional paper ballot, though his vote will remain pending until a hearing scheduled for Friday.
“I was trying to do my best and be a good citizen and go vote,” Swinney explained. “Sometimes doing your best ain’t good enough. You have to keep going though, keep figuring it out.
A man with deep-rooted values, Swinney has openly discussed his personal principles and approach to leadership, often mentioning his faith as a guiding factor. Since taking the helm, Swinney has transformed the Clemson Tigers into a national powerhouse, leading them to multiple College Football Playoff appearances and national championships in 2016 and 2018.
Swinney has never publicly endorsed a presidential candidate, but he has been open about his conservative leanings and belief in traditional values. Over the years, Swinney has become not only a successful coach but a respected public figure, especially within South Carolina. Trump is expected to carry the Palmetto State in this election.
