JUST IN: Trump Issues Statement After Biden Exits Presidential Race

Former President Donald Trump reacted to President Biden’s decision to drop out of the presidential race in a Truth Social post on Sunday.

“Crooked Joe Biden was not fit to run for President, and is certainly not fit to serve – And never was! He only attained the position of President by lies, Fake News, and not leaving his Basement,” the former president wrote.

“All those around him, including his Doctor and the Media, knew that he wasn’t capable of being President, and he wasn’t – And now, look what he’s done to our Country, with millions of people coming across our Border, totally unchecked and unvetted, many from prisons, mental institutions, and record numbers of terrorists. We will suffer greatly because of his presidency, but we will remedy the damage he has done very quickly. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

In a statement released Sunday, President Biden announced that he will not be seeking re-election in the fall. He immediately endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris and stated that he plans to continue serving throughout the last five months of his presidency.

“For now, let me express my deepest gratitude to all those who have worked so hard to see me re-elected. I want to thank Vice President Kamala Harris for being an extraordinary partner in all this work,” the president wrote. “And let me express my heartfelt appreciation to the American people for the faith and trust you have placed in me.”

Trump has previously expressed confidence in his campaign’s ability to defeat Vice President Kamala in November. In the weeks following President Biden’s disastrous debate performance, Trump has been referring to the new Democratic nominee as “laughin’ Kamala.”

“I call her laughin’ Kamala. Have you ever heard he laugh? She’s crazy,” Trump told supporters at a rally in Michigan on Saturday. “You know, you can tell a lot by her laugh. No, she’s crazy. She’s nuts.”

Several national pollsters have prepared for the possibility of Biden stepping aside, leading to plenty of polling data for a hypothetical Harris-led ticket. The results have not been great, something that may have been expected given Harris’ low favorability numbers. According to the latest data from FiveThirtyEight, just 38 percent of American voters approve of the vice president’s job performance while 50 percent disapprove.
