Trump Responds After Thousands Of African Migrants Overrun Spanish Border

The White House on Thursday responded to the stunning scenes from Ceuta, Spain, where tens of thousands of Moroccan invaders stormed across the border and overwhelmed border guards.

“President Trump has long warned Europe what would happen if they continue to implement far-left, globalist policies – including enabling mass migration,” the White House said in a statement, which was reported by Fox News correspondent Bill Melugin. “Spain and other countries who have adopted this destructive philosophy should immediately reverse course or risk their own demise.”

The statement comes in response to stunning scenes from Ceuta, a Spanish autonomous city on the North African coast bordering Morocco, in which tens of thousands of invaders poured over the border. Over the preceding week, approximately 1,500 invaders had reached Ceuta, primarily by swimming from the Moroccan side, according to local leader Juan Jesús Vivas.

By Thursday, the numbers increased substantially. Spanish state television TVE reported that 2,000 to 3,000 people had crossed that day, while other accounts described thousands of arrivals, mostly young men from Morocco. Invaders used flotation devices such as inflatable inner tubes to swim around the Tarajal breakwater or crossed on foot through openings in the border fencing.

Rachid Sbihi, head of the association representing Civil Guard officers in Ceuta, stated that the border had “totally collapsed.” He described the situation as “absolute chaos” and added that it was “not possible to give precise numbers, but there are thousands of migrants crossing.” National Police and Civil Guard officers reported being “overwhelmed,” with one stating, “We are one step away from operational collapse.”

Vivas characterized the circumstances as “a total humanitarian and social emergency” and “an absolute humanitarian and social emergency.” He noted that facilities for unaccompanied minors were operating far beyond capacity and called on the central government in Madrid to declare a national emergency, reinforce police, and deploy the army.

The Spanish Interior Ministry indicated it would deploy military reinforcements, including three platoons of 20 soldiers each, a diving unit, a military vessel, and additional special police units bringing the total to 200 personnel. The ministry stated it was working with increased resources to ensure security, migration control, and humanitarian assistance, and that it would seek the return of those who entered illegally in coordination with Moroccan authorities.

Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez — whose government recently granted amnesty to millions of overwhelmingly Muslim invaders — said the government was “fully committed to providing an immediate response to the situation in Ceuta.” He added, “We are mobilizing all necessary resources, working with Moroccan and international authorities, and preparing the necessary measures to restore normalcy as soon as possible.”
