JUST IN: Trump Rips GOP Senator For Voting Against OBBB, Green-Lights Primary Challenge

President Donald Trump ripped Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) for voting against advancing the Big Beautiful Bill on Saturday night. In a follow-up post, the president announced that he will be meeting with potential primary challengers to Tillis, who is widely viewed as one of the most vulnerable incumbents in the upcoming midterm elections cycle.

Tillis was among three Senate Republicans who voted against advancing the bill on Saturday night, joining Senators Rand Paul (R-KY) and Ron Johnson (R-WI). Johnson later met with fellow budget hawks in Senate Majority Leader Thune’s office in order to potentially change his vote, while Paul has long expressed opposition to the legislation over debt ceiling concerns.

While Tillis had expressed concerns over Medicaid funding, his decision to vote against the bill largely caught the conference off-guard and drew the ire of President Trump.

“Looks like Senator Thom Tillis, as usual, wants to tell the Nation that he’s giving them a 68% Tax Increase, as opposed to the Biggest Tax Cut in American History! At the same time, he is unable to understand the importance of a Debt Extension, which Republicans gave to the Democrats just prior to the November 5th Election, because of its significance, and how important it was for the future of the U.S.A.,” the president posted on Truth Social.

He went on to outline a number of policy concerns he has with the embattled senator, including his past support for green energy subsidies, which he said will enrich China and ruin the North Carolina landscape.

“I can’t believe that the Great People of North Carolina, a State that I love and won all three times, and a State that I just brought back with money, blood, sweat, and tears, from the recent tragic floods, when Sleepy Joe Biden let them DROWN, right up until the end of that Administration, without doing anything,” Trump continued. After listing a number of the most important agenda items in the bill, including billions of dollars in additional border security funding, no tax on tips and an extension of the 2017 Trump tax cuts.

“Thom Tillis is making a BIG MISTAKE for America, and the Wonderful People of North Carolina!” the president concluded.

In a follow-up post, Trump announced that he will be meeting with potential primary challengers to Tillis in the coming weeks. “Numerous people have come forward wanting to run in the Primary against ‘Senator Thom’ Tillis. I will be meeting with them over the coming weeks, looking for someone who will properly represent the Great People of North Carolina,” the post reads.

“And, so importantly, the United States of America. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”

Tillis has drawn the ire of the Trump base on numerous occasions due to his votes and fanatical stance on the January 6 Capitol protests. He recently voted against advancing the nomination of then-D.C. U.S. Attorney Ed Martin over his advocacy for January 6 political prisoners.

Lara Trump, the president’s daughter-in-law and former co-chair of the Republican National Committee, has long been floated as a potential candidate. A poll conducted last year found Trump leading well ahead of Tillis, though she has not yet committed to running for the seat.
