JUST IN: Trump Withdraws Nomination, Announces New Pick: ‘Impeccable MAHA Credentials’
President Donald Trump announced Wednesday that he is withdrawing his nomination of Dr. Janette Nesheiwat to be the next U.S. Surgeon General — and tapping a new name with what he called “impeccable MAHA credentials.”
In a statement posted to Truth Social, Trump revealed that Dr. Casey Means, a rising voice in the field of metabolic health and co-founder of Levels Health, will be his new pick to lead the nation’s top public health post if he returns to the White House.
“I am pleased to announce that Dr. Casey Means will be nominated as our next Surgeon General of the United States of America,” Trump wrote. “Casey has impeccable ‘MAHA’ credentials, and will work closely with our wonderful Secretary of Health and Human Services, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., to ensure a successful implementation of our Agenda in order to reverse the Chronic Disease Epidemic, and ensure Great Health, in the future, for ALL Americans.”
Trump praised Dr. Means’ academic background and body of work as “absolutely outstanding,” calling her “one of the finest Surgeon Generals in United States History.”

The president also said Dr. Nesheiwat, who was previously announced as his choice for the post, will remain part of his health policy team. “Secretary Kennedy looks forward to working with Dr. Janette Nesheiwat in another capacity at HHS,” Trump said, suggesting she may still play a key role in his administration’s health efforts.
The switch comes amid growing attention to Trump’s so-called “MAHA” platform — Make America Healthy Again — which emphasizes reducing chronic illness through lifestyle and preventive care.

Dr. Means is a Stanford-trained physician, author, and entrepreneur who has become a prominent voice in the movement to revolutionize American healthcare through metabolic and preventive approaches. Originally trained in head and neck surgery, she left conventional medicine to focus on root-cause, lifestyle-driven solutions for chronic disease.
She is the co-founder of Levels Health, a technology company that provides real-time glucose monitoring tools to help individuals understand how their lifestyle impacts their health.
Born in September 1987, Means earned both her undergraduate and medical degrees from Stanford University. In 2024, she co-authored the New York Times bestselling book Good Energy: The Surprising Connection Between Metabolism and Limitless Health with her brother, Calley Means. The book outlines a vision for healthcare centered around diet, sleep, movement, and metabolic awareness.
Means has become closely aligned with the “Make America Healthy Again” movement, working alongside figures like Robert F.
