‘I Don’t Give A Sh*t!’: Vulnerable Democrat Senator Blindsided By Secret Recording
Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH), considered one of the most vulnerable Democrats in the upcoming 2024 elections, is facing a major “October Surprise” as new video footage reveals a Democrat staffer working on behalf of Brown and Rep. Emilia Sykes (D-OH) delivering an explicit rant about Ohioans and border security.
In the footage, Kevin Oyakawa, a Democratic operative for Brown and Sykes, unleashed a profanity-laced tirade while speaking with a volunteer earlier this month. Oyakawa expressed his strong support for an open border policy, declaring, “Like me, I’m all for just like, open the f-ing border. I don’t give a sh*t who the f*** comes in here. We don’t need border patrol,” he said in a video obtained by Ohio.news.
Oyakawa went on to claim that immigration is a “losing issue” for Democrats in Ohio, attributing the challenge not to the policies themselves, but rather to what he described as “people’s pure racism.” The accusation appears to be directed at Ohio voters who favor stricter border measures, a sentiment that has dominated the conversation around immigration in the state. Oyakawa serves as the Regional Organizing Director for the Ohio Democratic Party.

The video’s release comes at a critical time for Brown, who is currently running for re-election in a highly contested Senate race. With Republicans making immigration and border security a key issue, this footage could be a severe blow to Brown’s campaign, potentially alienating moderate and swing voters who oppose open borders. Brown, who has served as Ohio’s senator since 2007, is fighting to retain his seat in a state that has trended more conservative in recent years.
Republicans have grown increasingly bullish about their chances of victory, especially in the Senate. Wins in West Virginia and Montana, now all but certain, would be enough to flip the upper chamber to GOP control. Meanwhile, tightening races in Ohio and Pennsylvania have saddled incumbent Democrats Brown (D-OH) and Bob Casey (D-PA). Republican Bernie Moreno has completely closed the gap on Brown’s once solid lead.
The latest Morning Consult poll revealed Moreno with 47% support among likely voters, edging out Brown by one percentage point, who now stands at 46%. This is a notable shift from previous polls, which had Brown leading. Both internal and public polling suggests that Brown’s appeal may be faltering, particularly with Trump leading the Republican ticket. The Ohio Senate contest has shattered records, becoming the priciest congressional race this cycle with ad spending and reservations surpassing $483 million since the start of 2023, AdImpact reports.
Ohio, once a pivotal swing state, has increasingly leaned Republican in recent years. This is evident in its presidential voting patterns: after supporting Barack Obama in 2012, Ohio voted decisively for Trump in both 2016 and 2020.
For now, it seems that the Republicans have reason to be optimistic as Moreno’s campaign gains ground against a seasoned Democratic incumbent. While many Democratic incumbents are still leading in key states, Brown’s declining support signals a tough road ahead for the party.
