JUST IN: Mysterious Package Causes Illnesses At Joint Base Andrews, Officials On High Alert
A mystery package delivered to Joint Base Andrews in Maryland on Thursday sickened at least seven people and sent them to the hospital after an unknown white powder spilled out, CNN reported.
The scare unfolded just outside Washington, DC, at the Air National Guard Readiness Center. When the package was opened, several people nearby started feeling ill and were rushed to the on-base Malcolm Grow Medical Center, according to three sources familiar with the investigation.
In a statement, base officials confirmed that “a suspicious package” had been opened, prompting an immediate evacuation. “As a precaution, the building and connecting building were evacuated, and a cordon was established around the area,” the statement said. “Joint Base Andrews first responders were dispatched to the scene, determined there were no immediate threats, and have turned the scene over to the Office of Special Investigations. An investigation is currently ongoing.”
HAZMAT teams raced to the scene and performed field tests, but according to one source, the tests “did not detect anything hazardous.” The team wrapped up and left the area Thursday evening, though officials said the probe into what the powder was — and where it came from — remains active.

Two sources told CNN that the people taken to the hospital were treated for symptoms and later released. The exact cause of their illness hasn’t been disclosed. The envelope was opened in a room inside the Readiness Center, which remains sealed off as investigators continue to comb through the scene — including political propaganda that was reportedly found in the package.
Joint Base Andrews serves as a high-security hub for top government officials, including the president, vice president, and cabinet members. President Donald Trump had been at the base just one day before the alarming incident.
